Farming techniques for mud carp

Mud carp is a tropical or subtropical freshwater fish, commonly known as native mud carp or mud carp male. Mud carp can adapt to eutrophic water environments, and it has a strong appetite, strong disease resistance, high yield, and tolerance to low dissolved oxygen in water, making it an essential species to raise in eutrophic fish ponds. So how should mud carp be farmed? Let's take a look at its farming techniques.

1. Fish pond preparation

Prepare a pond with an area of 5-8 mu and a water level of 1.2-1.5 m deep. The silt at the bottom of the pond should not exceed 20 cm. If it is too deep, mud clearing should be carried out. The water quality is required to be clear and pollution-free, with convenient drainage and irrigation. 3-5 days before releasing the fry, drain the pond water completely. After exposure to the sun, use 2-3 kg of bleaching powder per mu to clear the pond and disinfect it.

2. Pond separation and stocking of fry

The time for releasing fry is from June to October, and it can be divided into three periods. Choose the release time according to the market time in each place. The first period is from the end of June to the beginning of August. The stocking size is about 5,000 fry per kg, and 40,000-50,000 fry are stocked per mu. When they are ready for harvest, there are about 120 fish per kg, and the yield per mu is about 300 kg. The second period is from August to the beginning of September. The stocking size is 1,000 fry per kg, and 10,000 fry are stocked per mu. At harvest, there are about 50 fish per kg, and the yield per mu is 150 kg. The third period is from September to the beginning of October. The stocking size is 150-250 fry per kg, and 2,000-300 fry are stocked per mu. The harvest size is 1-2 fish, and the yield per mu is 500-600 kg.

3. Water quality management

Within one week after the fry are released into the pond, clear water is suitable, and eutrophic water should not be used directly. The water level should be controlled within 80 cm. After one week, fertilizer can be applied to increase the fertility of the water body. Generally, 5-7.5 kg of chicken manure is applied per mu and evenly splashed over the whole pond, until the transparency of the pond water is 25-30 cm. Under normal fry growth, water is generally added once a week, and the water temperature should be controlled at a water level of 1.2-1.5 m.

4. Feeding management

After the fry are released into the pond, their body size is relatively small. The feed is generally mainly soybean milk, supplemented by rapeseed cake. Soybean milk is splashed twice a day, supplemented with a small amount of rapeseed cake. After the fry are cultivated for 7-10 days and come up to the shoal, plankton can be grown at the foot of the pond shoal. After pond separation, the fry should be given organic fertilizer according to the quality of the bottom mud. Generally, 100-150 kg of bloodworms per mu should be fed as the opening feed, followed by feeding rapeseed cake. For every 1 kg of mud carp produced, 1.5 kg of rapeseed cake is consumed.

5. Disease prevention and control

Mud carp has relatively strong disease resistance, but during the fry stage it is very prone to gas bubble disease, so prevention of gas bubble disease should be done well. First, release the fry into clear water and regularly inject clear water to keep the water quality clear. In addition, parasitic diseases should also be prevented and controlled. Baichongjing can be splashed over the whole pond, and on the second day Yuwal anpi zhixueling can be splashed over the whole pond, with excellent results.
