Artificial Breeding Methods for Yellow Croaker

The yellow croaker is a relatively rare fish species. Previously, yellow croakers were basically all wild, and the yellow croakers on the market mainly came from fishermen in coastal areas. But now artificial breeding of yellow croaker has gradually emerged, and there are many breeding methods, among which the most common are pond culture and cage culture. So today let us learn together about the artificial breeding methods for yellow croaker.

1. Breeding Preparation

Since yellow croaker is relatively difficult to raise, adequate preparation is needed before breeding. If cage culture is adopted, then the cages must be arranged according to the size of the yellow croaker; usually the water depth in the cage is about four meters. Secondly, in order to avoid abrasions on the yellow croaker, it is best to choose cages made of relatively soft material for breeding. If pond culture is adopted, then a location close to a water source must be chosen, and the pond must be disinfected, with the water depth kept at about two meters. Finally, oxygen supply equipment and equipment for regulating water quality, etc., also need to be prepared. Once everything is fully prepared, formal breeding can begin.

2. Fish Fry Selection

Yellow croaker is relatively precious, so when selecting fish fry you must be very careful, as this can increase the survival rate of yellow croaker breeding and reduce losses. We usually choose fish fry that are uniform in size, robust and lively, with intact scales, glossy skin, no internal or external injuries, and no diseases for stocking. Only such a fish population is conducive to unified management.

3. Fish Fry Stocking

Before stocking the fish fry, we need to disinfect them first, because the fish fry purchased may carry harmful substances such as some parasites and bacteria. If they are stocked directly, it will not only pollute the water body but also affect the growth of the fish population. Usually we put the fish fry in formalin for about half an hour, then take them out and place them in clean water for about a day, and finally put the fish fry into cages or ponds for rearing.

4. Feeding Management

The yellow croaker mainly feeds on frozen mackerel and saury. When feeding, we need to thaw the feed first, then make it into minced meat and mix in some specialized fish feed, and feed it at fixed locations. At the same time, we can also appropriately feed some small fish, small shrimp, and shellfish meat, so that the yellow croaker can have balanced nutrition during growth and will not suffer from malnutrition. Newly stocked yellow croakers usually only need to be fed about twice a day, that is, feeding in the morning and evening. After they grow larger, the amount of feed can be gradually increased.

5. Daily Management

The daily management of yellow croaker is relatively important, and its requirements for water quality are somewhat high. If pond culture is adopted, the water must be changed every day and the pond must be cleaned and disinfected from time to time. For cage culture, it is only necessary to remove the leftover food residue after each feeding, and then clean the mud and dirt on the cage from time to time and carry out disinfection and sterilization. Secondly, pay attention to water depth. For cage culture, a red tide warning must be set up at the breeding site, so that the depth of the cage can be adjusted in time. For pond culture, the water must be changed every day, so after each water change it is enough to keep it at a depth of two meters. Finally, there is the prevention and control of pests and diseases. Some agents that enhance resistance can be mixed into the feed. Diseased fish found should be promptly removed for isolation and treatment, and at the same time disease prevention should be carried out for the fish population.
