Breeding Technology for Rana chensinensis

We are all familiar with Rana chensinensis. It has the effects of moistening the lungs and nourishing yin, and strengthening the brain and improving intelligence. It is a frog species that combines medicinal, edible, and health-care uses. Because of its own medicinal effects, it has been captured in large numbers, causing its numbers to become increasingly scarce, while market demand for it is extremely large, so many people have begun to breed Rana chensinensis artificially. So how should Rana chensinensis be bred? Let's take a look together.

1. Building the breeding site

Rana chensinensis likes to live in environments without strong light, that are humid and cool, and it has no special requirements for the breeding environment, so a piece of idle open land can be used to build a breeding site. It is best to choose an area with higher terrain, a clean water source, and convenient drainage. River water, well water, and tap water can also be used. When building, use no film, mesh, or trimmed walls to enclose the breeding site into an escape-proof net with a height of about 1.5 m. A bird-proof net should also be installed, and shade and sun protection measures should be taken at the top. Some trees or plants can be appropriately planted in the site for shade and moisture retention. In this way, a living environment suitable for Rana chensinensis is set up. Several small ponds can be dug in the breeding site for Rana chensinensis to lay eggs and hatch. The water level of the pond surface only needs to be 30-40 cm.

2. Feed management

After the tadpoles hatch, after about 50 days they can become young frogs and come ashore. At this time, the young frogs mainly feed on small insects, so the feed at this time is mainly small insects, mosquitoes and flies, yellow mealworms, fly maggots, etc. When the temperature is suitable, Rana chensinensis will opportunistically hunt by itself. Spread the insects evenly on the ground around the breeding site. To grow quickly, sufficient feed must be provided. Current rearing generally uses yellow mealworms and fly maggots, and purchasing them will increase breeding costs, so farmers generally cultivate them themselves. Yellow mealworms can be mixed with rice husks and rice bran, and fly maggots can be made by adding animal blood to corn or rice husks, putting them in a container and placing it outdoors. After 2-3 days, a large number of fly maggots can be bred. This method is convenient and quick, and the quantity is large.

3. Breeding management

In April each year, put enough frog eggs into the breeding pond. After hatching, pay attention to the breeding density. It is recommended not to exceed 2000 per square meter. During the frog egg hatching period, pay attention to the freshness of the water quality and change the water in time. Pay attention to the sanitary environment and disinfect the hatching pond in time. If lime powder or other agents are used for disinfection, hatching should begin only after 10 days when the toxicity has dissipated, so as to avoid the toxicity killing normal frog eggs. After the young frogs metamorphose, promptly introduce them into the breeding site for rearing. During rearing, pay attention to temperature and humidity. When the temperature is high, increase humidity in time to achieve a cooling effect. Keep the humidity above 70% so that Rana chensinensis can breathe normally. Sprinkler irrigation facilities can be installed in the breeding site to facilitate humidification.
