How to root chrysanthemum cuttings in water? Practical tips to help you propagate easily
Chrysanthemum foliar nematode disease is one of the important diseases of chrysanthemums. It is distributed all over the world, and occurs in Shanghai, Nanjing, Hefei, Guangzhou, Changsha, Kunming, Zhejiang and other places in China. It mainly damages chrysanthemum leaves, causing them to turn yellow and drop early. In addition to chrysanthemums, this nematode also harms China asters, black-eyed Susans, dahlias, ...
1. Choose a good container. It is best to use a glass (1329,9.00,0.68%) jar, or a glass bottle with a larger mouth (so you can directly see the rooting situation and whether the water quality is good). If there are many cuttings, a shallow clay jar or a shallow pool will do.2. Plastic (11480,40.00,0.35%) floating body. Generally, foam plastic 1-2 cm thick is used as the floating body, and several small holes are made in the floating body with chopsticks.
3. Water scientifically. Fill the container with tap water to a depth of about 10 cm.
4. Pick and trim the cuttings. Pick the top of a thick, strong young shoot 6-10 cm long, use a sharp blade (double-edged blade) to cut the base of the cutting flat, and at the same time remove 2-3 leaves at the base of the cutting.
5. Insertion depth. Insert the cutting into the small holes prepared in advance in the floating body, with the lower end extending out 3-4 cm, and place it on the water surface.
6. Notes. ① In summer, because the water temperature is high, it should be placed in a shaded place, or in a ventilated and cool place indoors. In early spring and late autumn, place it outdoors and let it receive sunlight to raise the water temperature. In winter, place it in a sheltered place and let it receive full sunlight; at night, add a covering to prevent the new shoots from freezing. ② The water should be kept clean and fresh. If the water quality deteriorates, the cuttings will rot, so water should be added or changed once every 3-5 days (when the temperature is high). In winter, water rarely needs to be added or changed.
7. Rooting and transplanting. For chrysanthemums rooted in water, in spring, summer and autumn, rooting generally begins in about ten days, and the rooting rate is basically 100 percent. After another week, the new roots can grow to about 3 cm, and then they can be transplanted. In winter at room temperature, rooting begins in about twenty days, and after another twenty days, they can be transplanted.
