How promising is gecko farming really?

What are the prospects for gecko farming?

The gecko itself has the characteristics of being salty in taste, cold in nature, and slightly toxic; it dispels wind and calms convulsions, and removes toxin and dissipates masses. It mainly treats conditions such as post-stroke hemiplegia, arthralgia from wind, wind-phlegm epilepsy, scrofula and malignant sores. Among the people, this product is commonly used to treat esophageal cancer, stomach cancer, uterine tumors, and so on. Geckos mainly contain protein, fat, and histamine-like substances, and also contain toxic substances similar to wasp venom. Pharmacological research has proven that geckos have anti-tumor effects. In vitro experiments found that gecko aqueous solution can inhibit the respiration of human liver cancer cells. Precisely because the whole body of the gecko has noble medicinal value, gecko farming is currently a farming project that many people favor. So what is the market prospect for gecko farming?

Simple facilities, easy to raise and manage

Gecko farming can be done simply and modestly. Jars, basins, plastic buckets and the like can all be used for farming, and idle rural houses can also be used; with a little modification, they can be used to raise geckos. It is only necessary to take good measures to prevent the geckos from escaping. There is no need to invest in professional farming buildings and farming equipment. Geckos eat very little, generally feeding mainly on live insects. You can use insect-attracting lamps to trap wild insects, or make your own fly traps to catch them, so there is almost no farming cost. For large-scale farming, it is necessary to raise some insects such as yellow mealworms and ground beetles. Feeding once a day or once every few days is fine. Throughout the entire growth process there is almost no trouble from disease, and both the elderly and children can raise them.

In short supply on the market, broad prospects

In recent years, with the gradual depletion of wild resources, large-scale artificial development has not yet started nationwide, while the development of deeply processed gecko products has continued to deepen. On the one hand, the amount of geckos used has continued to increase; on the other hand, wild resources have been accelerating toward depletion, making the gecko market even tighter in supply. The market price has risen from more than 40 yuan per kg in the past to more than 200 yuan per kg, and in some medicinal herb markets there is a price but no goods. The sharp rise in prices has further stimulated the capture of wild resources, forming a vicious cycle. Experts point out that developing gecko farming has become an urgent task, and developing it at the right time will bring generous returns.

A niche project for making money easily

If constant-temperature farming is adopted and management is proper, a female gecko lays eggs once a week, about two eggs each time. If natural room-temperature farming is adopted, the gecko's egg-laying period can reach three months. Geckos eat little and grow quickly. A newly hatched gecko is already 6 cm in body length, and under suitable conditions it can develop into an adult in 3 months. Raise them in the same year and you can profit in the same year. In an ordinary farmhouse of about 15 sq m, if the constant-temperature farming method is adopted, 100 kg of dried geckos can be produced annually, easily earning more than 10,000 yuan. If developed on a large scale, the benefits will be even more considerable.

Although gecko farming is indeed a low-risk, quick-money niche wealth-building project with tempting business opportunities, experts also remind that at present there are not many farms in China engaged in large-scale gecko farming, and phenomena such as hyping technology and hyping breeding stock are widespread. It is recommended that farmers, before starting to farm, must investigate from multiple sources and go to regular farms to learn and introduce breeding stock, so as to reduce detours in gecko farming.
