How to build a scorpion breeding base? A detailed explanation of the construction method

As early as the early 1950s, China began experimental research on artificial scorpion breeding and made encouraging progress. In Anhui and other provinces, large numbers of specialized scorpion-breeding households appeared one after another, becoming the first to embark on the road to moderate prosperity. Now let us take a look together at the construction methods for a scorpion breeding base!
Selection of the breeding base
1. Site: The site should be sheltered from the wind and face the sun. It should generally be on the south slope of a hill, that is, the sunny side, and at the same time avoid wind gaps. Never build the site at a mountain pass facing the wind.
2. Environmental conditions: Generally, terraced fields or relatively flat mountain land should be chosen. Surrounding trees should be more than 10 m away from the site to avoid shading or roots penetrating in and affecting the construction of scorpion nests, and the maximum slope of the mountain land should not exceed 40 degrees.
3. Soil texture: The soil at the site should be loam or sandy loam to meet the scorpion's requirements for temperature and humidity. The soil should preferably be neutral or slightly acidic to slightly alkaline.
4. Terrain: The site should not be in a low-lying area and must be able to drain accumulated water smoothly, so as to avoid flooding the scorpion nests and affecting the scorpions' normal growth and development.
5. Natural enemies: When choosing a site, special attention should be paid to avoiding scorpions' natural enemies in spatial terms, such as ants, rats and snakes.
Preparation of the breeding base
1. Plowing and fine leveling: Plow the mountain land to a depth of about 30 cm, shape it into terraces, and break the soil layer up finely and evenly.
2. Clearing the site: Remove stones of all sizes, weeds and their roots, so as to avoid affecting the scorpions' nest building, or weeds recurring the following year and affecting the normal light, temperature and humidity conditions of the scorpion farm.
Planning of the breeding base
Generally, when the mountain land area exceeds 10 m * 10 m, it should be divided into sections. The purpose of dividing into sections is to divide a large site into small sites, making it convenient to build irrigation and drainage channels and arrange scorpion nests by plot.
1. Size of the plots: Plots are generally 20-50 sq m. Specifications include 10 m * 5 m, 10 m * 3 m, 6 m * 5 m, 5 m * 5 m and so on.
2. Layout
① If the scorpion farm is square, the layout is simple and easy, neat and attractive, with rectangular plots arranged in sequence. Roads are left between rows, and drainage ditches should be beside the roads. The roads should be about 1 m wide, and the plots within a row are directly connected.
② If the scorpion farm is triangular or trapezoidal, the plots can be laid out in a “pin” shape.
③ If the site is irregular in shape, then it depends on the situation. Try to make it neat, concise, concentrated and reasonable.
