Cherry blossoms prefer a warm, moist-leaning environment. They require plenty of sunlight, are not tolerant of shade and dampness, are not tolerant of saline-alkaline soil, and dislike waterlogging; they are cold-hardy and drought-tolerant, but during the flowering period they fear strong winds and smoke and dust. They are suited to growing in loose, fertile, well-drained slightly acidic or neutral sandy loam.

Light and temperature: the suitable growing temperature is 18-20°C. Whether planted in the ground or in containers, they should be placed in a spot with plenty of sunlight. In winter, after potted cherry blossoms are brought indoors, they should be placed in a wind-sheltered, sunny spot with good light, otherwise growth will be poor. In the Central Plains region they can overwinter safely outdoors; in the Beijing area, young and newly planted saplings need cold-protection measures and gradual acclimation, and the planting micro-environment should have a certain humidity, which benefits the normal growth and development of cherry blossoms. Once newly planted specimens have stable growth and development, their adaptability to low temperatures gradually increases, that is, their cold resistance increases.
