How to Keep a Chilean Rose Tarantula

The Chilean rose tarantula (Grammostola rosea) originates from the deserts of Chile. Its entire body is covered in dark red fuzzy hair, giving the whole body a dark purple appearance that is very eye-catching. It has a docile temperament and a slow growth process. It is generally non-aggressive toward humans, has low demands for its living environment, and is very easy to keep. Let us take a look below at how to keep a Chilean rose tarantula!

First, prepare a sufficiently large terrarium, because the Chilean rose tarantula belongs to the large spider category. An adult spider can grow to 10-15 cm in body length, so preparing a large terrarium is very necessary. The box can be made of metal or glass with good ventilation. Spread a layer of sand or a sand-mud mixture in the selected box. Generally, spreading 5-10 cm is enough, which makes it suitable for the spider to live in.

Second, the pet spider's food needs to be prepared by the owner. Spiders are not very picky eaters. Various live insects are its food; for example, katydids, cockroaches, small fish, grasshoppers, silkworm pupae, or bread crumbs can all be fed to the Chilean rose tarantula. Their appetite is not large. Generally, after feeding once, they will stop for a long time before the next feeding, so owners do not need to worry about the trouble of frequent feeding.

Third, when feeding, you can directly put live insects into the spider's cage. Chilean rose tarantulas will launch attacks on their own and eliminate the food. Note that when feeding, you also need to keep the surrounding environment quiet, otherwise it can easily affect its appetite.

Note: All spiders are venomous animals, but different species have different degrees of venom potency. The Chilean rose tarantula belongs to the docile category of pet spiders, but it cannot be ruled out that it may sometimes harm people. Therefore, friends who keep spiders at home should not put the spider in their hands to play with. It should be allowed to stay obediently in its cage, which is the safest at this time. If the owner insists on playing with the Chilean rose tarantula, they can choose a long stick instead of directly touching it with their hands.
