What Are the Natural Enemies of the Weasel

The weasel (Siberian weasel) is a small carnivore that inhabits plains, marshes, river valleys, villages, cities, and mountainous areas. Weasels rarely prey on chickens; they are actually natural enemies of pest rodents and prey on them in large numbers. It is estimated that a single weasel can eat 1500-3200 mice a year. Let us take a look below at what the natural enemies of the weasel are!

Dogs

Weasels are very afraid of dogs, especially small dogs, which they fear the most, because small dogs can catch them. Ordinary native dogs can easily defeat a weasel, while dogs that are too large are less able to catch one. Some media previously reported that a weasel stealing chickens in the early morning was discovered by a small dog crouching outside; instead of stealing a chicken, it was bitten to death by the small dog.

Geese

Geese are very aggressive. Anyone who has raised geese knows that geese guard the home. Large ganders in particular will actively attack unfamiliar people or other creatures. A weasel is no match for a goose at all. The large white goose can not only guard the home and yard like a dog, but is also a natural enemy of the weasel. Weasels fear goose droppings; if they get even a little on their bodies, it will cause ulceration, and the most dangerous part is the weasel's paws!

What Do Weasels Eat

The Siberian weasel has a very varied diet. In the wild, it mainly feeds on mice and hares. Although hares run very fast over short distances, in a long high-speed chase they will eventually be caught due to fear and exhaustion, have their necks bitten through, and become victims of the weasel. It also eats bird eggs and chicks, fish, frogs, and insects. Near homes, it often raids poultry at night, first sucking their blood, then eating the internal organs and body, as it has a strong taste for blood. It uses the odor from its scent glands to defend itself. According to surveys, each weasel can prey on 6-7 mice in a single night.
