Aquaculture techniques for high-quality crucian carp

Because crucian carp has high nutritional value and is very popular in the market, farming crucian carp offers generous market returns. How should we raise crucian carp of excellent quality? It mainly comes down to the following aspects: selection of fish species, stocking density, variety combination, feed selection and disease prevention and control.

Selection of fish species

When purchasing crucian carp fingerlings, you should correctly distinguish good from poor fingerlings based on the biological characteristics of the main crucian carp farming varieties, so as to avoid being cheated.

Stocking density

In order to reduce farming costs, it is best to cultivate large-size fingerlings yourself. When using ponds to cultivate crucian carp fingerlings, stock 8,000-12,000 crucian carp per mu, which can achieve a grown size of 50-60 grams. When farming adult crucian carp, when the average size of the fingerlings is 50-60 grams, stocking 1500-1800 crucian carp fingerlings per mu is most ideal, and the commercial fish size can reach 350-400 grams.

Variety combination

To cultivate large-size crucian carp varieties, do not combine them with grass carp and common carp; instead, choose silver carp and bighead carp, with their number accounting for about 20% of the main farmed crucian carp, and bighead carp accounting for about 10% of the silver carp. The stocking time of the combined varieties should not be too early; in particular, introducing bighead carp too early has a greater impact on the domestication of crucian carp.

Feed selection

The standard for choosing crucian carp feed particle size should be “choose smaller rather than larger.” Generally, when crucian carp size is below 10 grams/fish, choose a feed particle size of 0.50 mm; at 10-30 grams/fish, choose 1.0 mm; at 30-75 grams/fish, choose 1.50 mm; at 75-100 grams/fish, choose 2.0 mm; at 150-300 grams/fish, choose 2.40 mm; at above 300 grams/fish, choose 3.20 mm. The feeding ability of fish is directly affected by fish size and pond water temperature, so the feeding rate should be adjusted according to actual conditions and should not remain unchanged.

Fish disease prevention and control

Crucian carp has strong disease resistance, but attention should be paid to the discovery in recent years of hemorrhagic Lernaea disease in crucian carp. Although the incidence of this disease is not high, once infected and allowed to develop, it will cause mass death of crucian carp.

In addition to the above points, scientific management such as regular disinfection and water changes of the fish pond should also be carried out.
