Precautions during crucian carp farming

Crucian carp is a middle-to-bottom layer fish, similar to mud carp and common carp. Fish ponds used for farming crucian carp generally no longer polyculture mud carp or common carp. In addition, there are two aspects that need attention: water quality and diseases.

Water quality

Crucian carp is similar to the four major Chinese carps and does not have high requirements for water quality. It can be raised in conventional aquaculture ponds, and the pond only needs to be slightly more nutrient-rich than a grass carp pond. During the high-temperature culture season from July to September, microecological preparations, Bacillus subtilis, photosynthetic bacteria and other products can be used 1-2 times a month to regulate water quality, so as to control harmful indicators such as ammonia nitrogen and nitrite in the pond.

Diseases

Improved varieties of silver crucian carp generally have relatively strong disease resistance, with fewer outbreaks of disease, and treatment is also relatively easy. The main diseases that occur are: anchor worms, Dactylogyrus, sporozoans, and hemorrhagic disease. Doing a good job of disinfection and pest control in spring and autumn, regulating water in the high-temperature season, and orally administering some traditional Chinese medicines for protecting the liver and promoting bile secretion, as well as vitamins for prevention, can effectively avoid large-scale disease outbreaks.
