Common methods and characteristics of fish pond disinfection

After the fish pond has been repaired, according to local conditions, the following drugs can be selected for disinfection treatment to kill wild trash fish, aquatic insects, benthic organisms and various pathogens. Common disinfectants include quicklime, bleaching powder, tea seed cake and croton, and quicklime has the best disinfection effect.

Quicklime disinfection

When quicklime meets water, it produces a strong alkali, so it has a very strong ability to sterilize and kill harmful organisms. About half a month before fry and fingerling stocking, choose a sunny day for quicklime disinfection. During disinfection, the fish pond needs to retain 7-10 cm of water so that the scattered quicklime can be evenly distributed. The usual amount of quicklime is 60-75 kg per mu, while for fish ponds with little silt, 50-60 kg is used.

[Usage] First dig several small pits around the pond edge, then put the quicklime into the pits to absorb water and slake, and before it cools, use a wooden shovel to splash it around. Be sure to splash the lime slurry evenly over the whole area. If the two banks of the fish pond are narrow enough to be sprinkled directly, the quicklime can be slaked into slurry in a wooden bucket and then directly splashed into the pond. After several hours, use a long-handled mud rake to mix the pond bottom silt and lime slurry so that the pond mud and lime are evenly mixed, increasing the effect of disinfection and pest removal. For fish ponds where drainage is inconvenient, carry out disinfection with water still in the pond. When the water depth of the fish pond is 1 m per mu, about 125-150 kg of quicklime is used.

[Characteristics] Quicklime has a strong and thorough effect. It can not only kill wild small fish, frog eggs, tadpoles, crabs, leeches, toxic moss and other aquatic organisms in the pond, but also eliminate pathogenic bacteria and parasites of fish. At the same time, it can also improve the soil quality of the pond bottom, increase soil fertility, increase mineral elements in the water, and play a direct fertilizing role.

Bleaching powder disinfection

Bleaching powder generally contains about 30% chlorine, and upon moisture decomposition releases hypochlorous acid and basic calcium chloride. The nascent oxygen released by hypochlorous acid has a strong sterilizing effect.

[Usage] Use 20 g of bleaching powder per cubic meter of water. After dissolving the bleaching powder in water, immediately splash it evenly over the whole pond. Bleaching powder volatilizes and decomposes very easily in the air, so it must be stored sealed and isolated from air. It should be stored in a cool and dry place to avoid losing effectiveness. The container for holding bleaching powder is best made of ceramic jars and wooden vessels, and metal vessels should not be used. When using it, wear a mask and splash the agent from the upwind side.

[Characteristics] The effectiveness of bleaching powder is similar to that of quicklime, but in fertile water its efficacy will be reduced, and it also disappears quickly, making it more suitable for ponds that need to be used urgently.
