Goldfish Feeding Methods and Precautions

Goldfish keeping is extremely widespread, and they are the most common ornamental fish species. Feeding goldfish is relatively easy in summer, easiest in winter, but very difficult during the plum rain season. Goldfish are generally not picky eaters. Fish feed, water fleas, earthworms, yellow mealworms, green worms, leather worms, bread crumbs and so on are all things they can eat. Let's take a look at the feeding methods for goldfish below!
Daily Feeding Frequency
Only 1—2 times is needed, and the amount fed each time should be eaten within 1—2 hours. When the weather and water quality are normal, the amount fed can be appropriately increased a little for fish groups of varieties with strong vitality.
Goldfish Feeding Times
In spring and summer, it is best to feed early, generally around 6—7 in the morning, when the sun begins to shine on the fish pond (tank). In late autumn and winter, the feeding time can be a little later, generally around 7—8 o'clock, and in the cold winter season it can even be delayed until around 10 o'clock. However, be sure to avoid feeding a large amount in the evening. Even if the fish school is clearly foraging, it is better to feed only a small amount around 3 in the afternoon. After November, the water temperature drops noticeably, and the appetite of goldfish tends to decline, so feeding in the evening is even less advisable.
Goldfish Feeding Amount
As goldfish grow, the feeding amount should gradually and appropriately increase, but feeding must not be done blindly, especially with artificial feed, which should be controlled even more strictly. For home fish keeping, the daily amount can be divided into 1—2 feedings to avoid putting too much feed in at once, where it accumulates in the pond (tank) and spoils the water quality.
