Detailed Explanation of Key Technical Points for Pond-Based Main Culture of Black Carp

As a traditional aquaculture species, black carp (Mylopharyngodon piceus) has always been favored by consumers. In recent years, the market price of black carp has been rising continuously, and the prospects for black carp farming are promising. The high-yield techniques for pond-based main culture of black carp are introduced below; applying these techniques can achieve a yield of about 1000 kg of black carp per mu.
Pond Conditions
The pond area is 8-10 mu, with good water quality, no pollution, convenient water intake and drainage, and pond bottom mud of less than 20 cm. Each pond is equipped with 1-2 paddle-wheel aerators of 3 kW. Before stocking, the pond is dried and exposed to the sun, then disinfected with quicklime (for dry pond disinfection, use 60-75 kg of quicklime per mu; for disinfection with water, use 125-150 kg of quicklime per mu). When stocking fingerlings, the water level is controlled at 1-1.2 m.
Fingerling Stocking
Stock fingerlings that are uninjured, disease-free, robust, and uniform in size. Stock 900-1100 black carp fingerlings of 200-250 g each per mu, together with 200 silver carp fingerlings of 200 g each, 50 bighead carp fingerlings of 250 g each, and 50 Pengze crucian carp fingerlings of 50 g each. Before stocking, soak and disinfect the fingerlings in salt water for 3 minutes.
Feeding Management
The feed is mainly artificial compound feed, which is required to be palatable and fresh. Generally, the feeding rate at the initial stage of fingerling stocking is 0.5%-1.5%, 3%-6% from June to August, and 2%-3% after August. Black carp like to eat live river snails. During July to August, when the black carp has a relatively large food intake, purchase a certain amount of fresh live river snails and feed them together with mixed pellet feed to reduce the probability of enteritis. Persist in patrolling the pond in the morning, at noon, and in the evening, patrolling frequently and observing carefully to check the fish's feeding and growth conditions. Inject about 20 cm of new water every half month, master the on-off time of the aerator, and splash quicklime water once every 20 days to prevent fish diseases and regulate water quality.
Fish Disease Prevention and Control
Give priority to prevention, with equal emphasis on prevention and control. After stocking the fingerlings, splash insecticidal drugs over the whole pond. After that, about every half month, use 10-20 g of bleaching powder per cubic meter of water, dissolved in water and splashed over the whole pond, to prevent enteritis in black carp during July to August.
Timely Harvesting
After October, when the black carp reaches a size of more than 1 kg, the silver carp reaches 1 kg, the bighead carp reaches 1.5 kg, and the Pengze crucian carp reaches 0.4 kg, they can be harvested and marketed in appropriate amounts.
