Crucian Carp Bait Recipes and Fishing Techniques for Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter

Most anglers enjoy fishing for crucian carp, because it can be caught in all four seasons. Before fishing for crucian carp, we recommend that you first learn about its living habits. Only by knowing these can we "cater to its preferences." Its habits can be summed up as follows: "bottom-dwelling fish, omnivorous, fond of warm water, loves to school, fears strong light, loves aquatic plants." Below, let's take a look at the four-season recipes and fishing methods for crucian carp!

Spring Crucian Carp Bait Recipes and Techniques

1. Spring crucian carp bait recipes

① Materials: 500 g millet, 150 g qu liquor, 20 g medicinal amino acids, 10 g honey, 2 g monosodium glutamate (MSG), 10 tablets each of vitamin B1 and B2 (5 mg per tablet, crushed), 5 g vanilla essence.

② Preparation: Mix all the ingredients mentioned above except the millet with 150 g of qu liquor and place them in a clean, odor-free container. Shake well, then pour in the 500 g of millet and continue shaking until evenly mixed. Leave it indoors overnight and it is ready to use. It is very easy to make.

③ Usage: Use just 1 wine glassful each time you lay down chum.

2. Spring crucian carp fishing techniques

① Choose the right target fish: Relatively speaking, the fish that feed actively in early spring include crucian carp, topmouth culter, whitebait, small wheat-ear minnows and so on, followed by catfish and common carp. Therefore, spring fishing should focus on crucian carp, while carp, grass carp and others are caught incidentally. If you use a large hook and thick line specifically to catch common carp or silver carp and bighead carp and the like, you will find it hard to get any catches.

② Fish downwind, fish the south wind: In spring, because the wind is strong and there is little aquatic life, the water is neither short of oxygen nor has enough food to attract fish. Therefore, you should choose the sheltered spots below embankments and at bends, and take up a position downwind as much as possible, which is good for casting and also reduces the inconvenience caused by strong winds. A southerly wind generally raises the water temperature and promotes fish activity, so for spring fishing, calm weather or a sunny day with a south wind is best. When the wind is light, you can also fish at the downwind side, but when there are wind waves of force 3 to 4 or above, it is better to fish at the upwind side.

③ Fish sun-facing spots, fish the grass: Fishing in sun-facing spots means no human shadows and plenty of sunlight; the fish are not startled there and feel warm, which helps them feed. To seek food and spawn, freshwater fish all have a habit of staying close to grass, especially crucian carp. In the warm, blooming months of April and May, when temperature, water depth and other natural conditions are suitable, the water plants become their place to live and breed, so fishing close to the water plants should naturally be the first choice of spot. As the fishing saying goes: "If you fish without fishing the grass, you might as well run around blindly" - that is exactly what it means.

④ Small hooks and fine lines: "There is no trick to spring fishing - fine line, small hook." For spring fishing, choose small-shaped and round-bend hooks, such as Iseama No. 3-5 and Universal Sleeve No. 3-4. Among hooks of the same type, choose one with as thin a wire as possible, with great toughness and elasticity. The fishing line should be fine: main line No. 0.8-1.5, and leader line preferably No. 0.3-0.6. This is determined by the characteristics of crucian carp in the low-temperature spring state: low activity, a small mouth opening, sluggish behavior and very light feeding movements. A fine line with a small hook is far more sensitive than a thick line with a large hook. A soft, fine hook and line do not easily arouse the fish's alertness and also help the fish swallow, so you can naturally get satisfactory results.

⑤ Use meat baits and small baits: Generally, omnivorous fish, after a long winter of hibernation and lying still, have empty bellies and urgently need to eat to replenish nutrients, but they are not interested in vegetarian baits and mainly seek meat baits. Bloodworms are the first-choice bait for spring fishing; they come from the bottom of the water, and the fish often eat them in the water, gradually developing a habit of preferring them. Hooking a single bloodworm or a small bunch of several bloodworms has the greatest attraction for fish; the only drawback is that it is hard to put on the hook. When using earthworms as bait, you cannot hook a whole earthworm as in summer. Because the fish's mouth opening is small, cut the earthworm into small sections about 1 cm long and thread them on the hook with the hook point exposed. Otherwise, the fish may eat the earthworm but not reach the hook, and even with a clear signal you will not be able to strike the fish.

⑥ Small float and small sinker for sensitive fishing: For the float, No. 1 small floats are most ideal; they should be light, sensitive and streamlined. The seven-star float also works well.

⑦ Strike when the first signal appears: The habit of crucian carp when feeding is generally to touch first, then take it into the mouth, and then swim upward. Therefore, when the float is lightly lifted a certain amount (about 1 float division), it is also a good time to strike. If you do not strike in time and fail to catch the first signal, the fish may feel slightly uncomfortable and spit out the hook and leave, affecting your catch rate. A slight, slow bobbing up and down of the float is not a signal of a fish taking the hook, and you should not strike. Of course, when the float rises, is carried away, or sinks, you should also strike in time.

Summer Crucian Carp Bait Recipes and Techniques

Summer crucian carp bait is also very different from that of other seasons. Try to use bait that is low in fishy smell and high in sweetness. Although crucian carp quite like strong aromatic and intensely sweet smells, you can also add aroma in waters where small trash fish do not disturb the hook. If there are many small trash fish, especially many whitebait, you must never add aroma.

1. Summer crucian carp bait recipes

① Recipe 1: 6 liang millet, 2 liang crushed rice, 1 liang white granulated sugar, 1 liang clove shenqu medicinal liquor. Soak for 24 hours, then use as nest bait; for hook bait, use rice grains steamed with sugar.

② Recipe 2: 4 parts Longwanghen Blue Crucian No. 2, 2 parts roasted soybean powder, 2 parts white granulated sugar, 1 part stretchy powder. Knead directly into bait and fish with it.

2. Summer crucian carp fishing techniques

① Choose a fishing ground with water temperature suitable for crucian carp: The water temperature suitable for crucian carp is 18 to 25°C. If the air temperature is relatively high and the water temperature is high, when fishing for crucian carp you can choose relatively deep reservoirs, rivers or lakes, and you can also choose ditches, ponds, canals and dams, but it is best to lower your hook and fish in places 4 to 6 m deep.

② Choose places in the water with suitable oxygen content: Because in summer a large amount of aquatic algae reproduces, the transparency of the water decreases, the water temperature rises, and the oxygen-dissolving capacity drops. Sometimes, together with overcast clouds or relatively low air pressure and other reasons, when choosing a crucian carp fishing spot we need to choose places where the water line should not be too deep, and fish for crucian carp in the catchment area at the inlet and outlet. Wind waves and currents are often good times and good places for crucian carp fishing. "In summer, fish the two ends," and "move three times a day, fish the edges morning and evening" - that is, in summer the two ends of the day, morning and evening, are better for crucian carp fishing, and at dawn or dusk it is best to fish near the shore.

③ Places with relatively more crucian carp bait: Small shrimp in the water are a food that crucian carp very much like. Shrimp generally cannot tolerate low oxygen, often live on sandy and gravel bottoms, and only retreat to deep-water areas after daybreak. Therefore, the activity pattern of shrimp is similar to that of crucian carp, and when fishing for crucian carp you can pay attention to where the small shrimp are active. Sometimes places where domestic water flows in are also places crucian carp like to visit. In many lakes or reservoirs, the middle and upper reaches have a lot of silt, and the current distributes fine sand over large areas of shallow shoals at the water inlet. In such areas, not a single water plant grows in the water, so these cannot be ideal places for crucian carp fishing.

④ Places with crucian carp bubbles: Bubbles in the water can be divided into two kinds. One kind rises intermittently - these are fish bubbles; the kind that rises continuously is usually bubbles caused by ground gas, and fish bubbles generally move, while "ground gas" bubbles keep bubbling up in one place. Also, fish bubbles stop immediately when there is any movement, such as someone walking or clapping, while "ground gas" bubbles still continue. The bubble patterns produced by fish are all somewhat different, varying by fish species: bubbles produced by common carp and catfish form streaks and move forward; bubbles produced by crucian carp are one or two. Sometimes in the water plants you can see a patch of very tiny bubbles, so small that you cannot see them at all without looking closely; this often means a school of crucian carp is moving underwater.

⑤ Suitable wind and waves: When fishing in the lee, people feel more comfortable, it is easier to watch the float and cast the rod, and the main line of a sea rod will not bend too much. When fishing against the wind, it is best if the water line is deeper, because the water there is relatively stable. Near fishing and shallow methods are more suitable for catching carnivorous fish. In waters with a lot of plankton, you can fish shallow; in places with high transparency, you should fish appropriately deep. In the rainy season, when a large amount of silt enters the reservoir, you should choose areas with an open water surface, low flow speed and silt settling to the bottom, and avoid areas with high turbidity.

⑥ Choose suitable banks: When fishing for crucian carp, the best place to put bait is on the plane where the scoured section meets the deposition section. When choosing a bank to lower your hook, first look at the bank material on the water surface; second, choose a place suitable for operation - a slope that is too steep and covered with rubble is unsafe; third, see whether the bank has grass or crop fields and other sources of bait. Try to avoid those straight banks with little variation. When fishing for crucian carp in the middle and upper reaches, you can cast the bait appropriately far; when fishing for crucian carp in the lower reaches, it is best not to cast far.

That is all we will introduce for now about spring and summer crucian carp bait recipes and fishing techniques. Below, let's continue to look at autumn and winter crucian carp bait recipes and fishing techniques!
