What is the price of golden coin turtle seedlings? Detailed guide to keeping methods

The golden coin turtle is a rare turtle species of the family Geoemydidae, also known as the three-striped box turtle, broken-board turtle, golden-headed turtle, etc. It likes to choose shaded places to inhabit, has a habit of living in groups, hibernates every winter, and has characteristics such as a wide diet, strong disease resistance and strong hunger tolerance, and strong vitality. Its edible value, medicinal value, and ornamental value are all very high. Let us take a look below at the price of golden coin turtle seedlings and keeping methods!
How much does one golden coin turtle seedling cost?
The price of golden coin turtle seedlings is very expensive. Hainan golden coin turtle hatchlings are about 20,000 to 25,000 yuan each, and Vietnam golden coin turtle hatchlings are about 30,000 yuan each. The golden coin turtle is one of the freshwater turtles with promising development prospects, with very high edible and medicinal value. Wild golden coin turtles are extremely rare and sell very well in international and domestic markets. Because it has characteristics such as a wide diet, strong disease resistance and strong hunger tolerance, and strong vitality, artificial keeping is very convenient. However, it is worth noting that the golden coin turtle is a national second-class key protected animal in China, and its use should be within the scope permitted by laws and regulations.
What food does the golden coin turtle eat?
The golden coin turtle is an omnivorous turtle. It likes to inhabit mountain rock cavities or mud holes near water areas, dives to the bottom when startled, and often goes to mountain streams or damp places to forage for various aquatic animals. In nature, it mainly preys on aquatic animals such as snails, fish, shrimp, and tadpoles in the water. It also eats young rats, small fish, shrimp, snails, young frogs, scarab beetles, earthworms, snails, and maggots. Sometimes it also eats pumpkin, bananas, and tender plant stems and leaves, and seeds. Under artificial keeping conditions, it likes to eat animal offal, earthworms, lean meat, small fish, and mixed feed.
Keeping methods for the golden coin turtle
1. Turtle pond construction: When keeping golden coin turtles, young turtles, adult turtles, and parent turtles should be kept in separate ponds. This can avoid large turtles swallowing small turtles, and also makes it easier to determine feed feeding amounts and carry out keeping and management work, and makes it easier to observe and master the growth and activity of each type of turtle.
2. Selection of breeding turtles: For golden coin turtle breeding turtles, it is best to choose wild turtles. Turtles purchased before egg laying can lay eggs in the same year. If choosing artificially kept turtles, when selecting turtles, do not use only the turtle's body weight as the standard, but should mainly use the turtle's age, with body weight only as an auxiliary condition.
3. Water quality management: For keeping golden coin turtles, tap water is sufficient. There is no need to expose it to sunlight to release chlorine, but the chlorine content must not exceed 300 mg/L. River water, rainwater, well water, etc. can also be used. At the beginning, the water depth only needs to submerge the turtle's back, and later gradually deepen it to about 15 cm.
4. Water temperature regulation: The golden coin turtle is a warmth-loving animal. The feeding temperature is above 20°C, and the growth water temperature is 25 to 35°C. To enable hatchlings to overwinter safely and grow quickly, heated keeping is necessary, and the optimal water temperature should be controlled between 28 and 30°C.
5. Feed selection: Golden coin turtle feed is divided into two major categories: animal feed and plant feed. For animal feed, choose lean pork, animal offal, fish, shrimp, shellfish meat, etc. For plant feed, choose bananas, apples, etc. Animal feed should be the main type, used alternately.
6. Feed feeding: When feeding golden coin turtles, the feed should be chopped. When the indoor temperature is below 25°C and above 30°C, feed once every day at 9 a.m. When the indoor temperature is 26°C-29°C, feed once at 9 a.m. and once at 6 p.m. each day.
Disease prevention and treatment for the golden coin turtle
1. Red neck disease
[Symptoms] It mostly occurs in the plum rain season. Red spots appear on the abdomen of the sick turtle, the throat and neck swell, the neck stretches out and cannot retract, appetite decreases, and reactions become sluggish. In severe cases, there is bleeding from the mouth and nose, intestinal inflammation and erosion, and generalized redness and swelling, followed by death before long.
[Prevention and treatment] ① Once disease occurs, isolate and treat immediately, disinfect the turtle pond with quicklime, and replace with new water. ② Treat with antibiotics such as chlortetracycline or oxytetracycline, injecting 150,000 international units at the base of the leg per kilogram of turtle.
2. Saprolegniasis
[Symptoms] At first, the sick turtle's appetite decreases, it moves restlessly, becomes thin and weak. In severe cases, water mold parasitizes the turtle's neck, limbs, plastron, and carapace. The shell is corroded, becomes soft and thin, so that it stops eating, moves sluggishly, and finally dies.
[Prevention and treatment] ① When disease occurs, let the sick turtle move on land and bask in the sun to reduce environmental conditions for water mold growth. ② Replace all the water in the turtle pond with new water and disinfect and sterilize with 0.04% table salt plus 0.04% baking soda, and splash the whole pond with 3 g/cubic meter of mildew treatment agent.
3. Skin rot disease
[Symptoms] With the naked eye, the skin of the turtle's limbs, neck, tail, and marginal scutes is seen to rot, erode, and become necrotic. In severe cases, the skin of the limbs rots away, the claws also fall off, and the bones are exposed.
[Prevention and treatment] Isolate promptly when disease occurs, and soak the turtle body with 10 g/cubic meter of sulfonamide drugs or antibiotics for 48 hours. For initial cases, 2 to 3 times per week, and it can be cured in 1 month.
4. Mucormycosis
[Symptoms] Spots appear on the limbs, marginal scutes, and other parts of the sick turtle. In the early stage, they appear on the edges, and later gradually expand to form patches of white spots, causing epidermal necrosis and partial disintegration, decreased appetite, and restlessness.
[Prevention and treatment] ① Thoroughly disinfect the turtle pond with quicklime, and often keep the pond water tender green, which can reduce the occurrence of this disease. ② A 15-hour medicinal bath with 150 g/cubic meter of white spot remover can be used. After all the white spots on the sick turtle's body have fallen off, drain the medicinal solution and add new water again to the keeping water level.
