Feed Formulas for Sows at Each Stage

In pigs, any female pig of any age that has farrowed is called a sow. To maintain good body condition and reproductive performance in sows, the selection and control of feed at each stage of the sow is one of the key measures in breeding. The selection and control of feed at each stage should vary according to the sow's condition. Let's take a look at sow feed formulas below!

Feed Formula for Open (Non-pregnant) Sows

Most sows come into estrus and are mated 3-7 days after weaning, so short-term flush feeding must be done well. Its feed formula can follow the diet of lactating sows or late-gestation sows, promoting normal estrus and ovulation in sows, and also helping the embryos implant smoothly, improving the conception rate and litter size. It is recommended to use large-pen housing with free access to feed, or feed 3 kg on the first day after weaning, then about 4 kg per day thereafter.

Feed Formula for Replacement Gilts

1. Corn 60%, wheat bran (or rice bran) 22%, soybean meal 14%, sow premix 4%.

2. Corn 34%, wheat 30%, wheat bran (or rice bran) 22%, soybean meal 10%, sow premix 4%, wheat-specific compound enzyme 0.2%.

Note: After 6 months of age, begin restricting the daily feeding amount to 2.0-2.2 kg per day, begin checking the gilt's estrus status, and mate at the 2nd-3rd estrus (for first-mating gilts at 7 and a half months, body weight 120-140 kg). It is recommended to use large-pen housing; free access to feed for 2 weeks before mating can increase litter size.

Feed for Sows in EarlyGestation

1. Corn 62%, wheat bran (or rice bran) 21%, soybean meal 13%, sow premix 4%.

2. Corn 36%, wheat 30%, wheat bran (or rice bran) 21%, soybean meal 9%, sow premix 4%, wheat-specific compound enzyme 0.2%.

Note: This formula is suitable for young sows and high-yielding sows. It is recommended to use gestation stalls with restricted feeding, feeding 1.8-2.3 kg per day (this can also be appropriately increased or decreased according to season or body condition).

Feed for Sows in Late Gestation

1. Corn 62%, wheat bran (or rice bran) 16%, soybean meal 17%, sow premix 4%, Shengming No. 1 1%.

2. Corn 36%, wheat 30%, wheat bran (or rice bran) 16%, soybean meal 13%, sow premix 4%, Shengming No. 1 1%, wheat-specific compound enzyme 0.2%.

Note: This formula is suitable for high-yielding sows, promotes mammary gland development, prevents pre- and post-farrowing paralysis in sows, and helps improve the overall production performance of sows. It is recommended to use large-pen housing, feeding 2.3-2.5-3.5 kg per day.

Feed for Sows About to Farrow and Lactating Sows

1. Corn 67%, wheat bran (or rice bran) 9%, soybean meal 18%, sow premix 4%, Shengming No. 1 2%.

2. Corn 41%, wheat 30%, wheat bran (or rice bran) 9%, soybean meal 14%, sow premix 4%, Shengming No. 1 2%, wheat-specific compound enzyme 0.2%.

Note: This formula is suitable for high-yielding sows and helps improve the overall production performance of sows. One week before farrowing, move the sow onto the farrowing crate, reduce the feeding amount; after farrowing, feed freely and adequately, 5.0-8.0 kg per day. It is recommended to wean at 21 days, and do not reduce feed before weaning, which helps sows return to normal estrus after weaning.
