Oyster Farming Methods

Oysters are currently one of the more popular seafoods in our country, and because market demand has surged, artificial farming has become popular. The currently more popular farming methods include pillar, bamboo insertion, hanging rope, floating raft and several other farming methods. Qiannong Network will briefly introduce here how to use these methods to farm.

1. Pillars

Here, cement pillars are generally chosen, as they have low cost, good attachment effect, and are bulky and not easily moved by seawater. First, the surface of the cement pillar should be as rough as possible, with a height of 2 m and a diameter of 30 cm. In this way, the oysters' adhesion will be very strong. Second, before the cement pillar is moved to the seabed, it needs to be placed in a muddy area for a period of time. This is called pillar cultivation, and it can provide a very good nutritional foundation for newborn oysters. Pay attention to regular inspections, and if there is tilting, straighten it in time. It is suitable for seabeds with relatively fast water flow.

2. Floating Rafts

This generally uses wood and bamboo tied together, equipped with floats to float on the sea surface. The raft size is about 5*8 m. Any larger will affect the overall yield, and any smaller will make the cost too high. It is generally fixed to the seabed with ropes to prevent drifting with the waves. They can also be connected to each other with ropes to avoid being unable to find them if the seabed rope breaks. The spacing between two rafts is about 20 m. It is more practical in calm shallow seas.

3. Bamboo Insertion

This is probably the easiest one for everyone to understand. It means inserting bamboo into the seabed, on the premise that the bamboo has undergone various treatments. Generally, every 6 bamboo poles form a pile, overall shaped like a funnel and fastened onto the sea mud. The bamboo length is controlled at about 1.5 m, with a diameter of more than 10 cm. The part close to the sea mud needs to be wrapped with ropes for better fixation. It is generally suitable for seabeds with a lot of soft mud and slow seawater flow.

4. Longlines

This is a relatively less labor-intensive method, and the materials are just ropes and floats. It is generally more suitable for farming in open sea areas. Because its resistance to wind and waves is fair, it can also be used for offshore farming. The two ends of the rope are fixed to hidden seabed anchors, and the middle is used for farming. The middle is generally 40-50 m wide, and the two sides depend on the sea depth of the location everyone chooses. Generally, a farming rope is hung down every 2 m and equipped with floats, and the rope length is about 3-5 m. In daily management, check more often whether the ropes have become tangled together.

The cost required for oyster farming is not high; the main thing is to inspect frequently. The seedlings used are currently generally wild seedlings. These farming methods are generally suitable for the sea. We will have updates later on river farming methods. Please pay more attention to Qiannong Network.
