How can rabbit diseases be treated by observing rabbit feces?

During rabbit breeding, farmers can judge whether a rabbit is sick and analyze what kind of rabbit disease it has by observing the rabbit's feces. The following mainly introduces several common identification methods.

Intestinal constipation

1. Rabbit feces symptoms: The feces are small and hard, and the amount is small. Sometimes no feces are passed for several days. The rabbit's abdomen becomes distended, water metabolism stagnates, and hard fecal pellets can be felt when touching the rabbit's lower abdomen.

2. Treatment method: Treat with oral edible oil. For large rabbits, 10-15 mL; for small rabbits, 5-10 mL, add an equal amount of warm water and administer orally once. Warm soapy water enema can also be used, 20-30 mL each time. Increase the feeding amount of green feed, stop feeding concentrated feed, increase exercise, and provide sufficient light salt water. This can effectively prevent the occurrence of the disease.

Indigestion or gastroenteritis-type diarrhea

1. Rabbit feces symptoms: The feces are soft and thin, pasty or watery, with a fishy odor. Undigested food is mixed in the feces, and the area around the anus is covered with thin feces. This is mostly indigestion or gastroenteritis-type diarrhea caused by improper feeding management, sudden feed changes, or feeding at irregular times or in irregular amounts.

2. Treatment method: Change the feeding method, feed easily digestible bait, prevent the feed from becoming moldy and deteriorated, and change feed gradually. Furazolidone can be administered orally, 1-2 tablets each time, twice a day, and at the same time gentamicin 2-4 mL can be injected intramuscularly. For severely dehydrated sick rabbits, 5% glucose 20-30 mL can be injected intravenously.

Coccidiosis

1. Rabbit feces symptoms: The feces are foul-smelling, with diarrhea, and the tail and the area around the anus are covered with thin feces. Some sick rabbits alternate between diarrhea and constipation, and sometimes there are blood streaks in the feces. Sick rabbits become emaciated, anemic, with pale ears, ascites, and sometimes strings of fecal pellets in the intestines. They emit a sharp cry before death.

2. Prevention method: For this disease, anti-parasitic drugs such as chlorobenzoguanide, clopidol, and compound sulfaquinoxaline can be added to the feed. For treating young rabbits, drugs such as penicillin and furazolidone can be added to drinking water, which can stop diarrhea and treat coccidia.

Clostridium welchii disease

1. Rabbit feces symptoms: The feces are brown, followed by severe watery diarrhea, sometimes gelatinous feces appear, and sometimes black watery feces are passed. In the later stage, the feces contain blood and have a fishy odor. The body temperature of the sick rabbit is not high, and the hind legs are contaminated with thin feces.

2. Treatment method: Clostridium welchii disease is a relatively difficult disease to treat in the rabbit industry. In the early stage, Clostridium welchii disease antiserum can be injected intravenously, 2-3 mL per kg of body weight, twice a day, and has a certain therapeutic effect. Kanamycin can also be used, 20 mg per kg of body weight, twice a day, for 3 consecutive days. Treatment with penicillin + streptomycin + Vc can also have a certain therapeutic effect.

Colibacillosis

1. Rabbit feces symptoms: The feces of newborn suckling rabbits are yellow-white and watery. Unweaned young rabbits and young rabbits develop severe diarrhea, passing pale yellow watery feces, and the feces carry a large amount of mucus.

2. Treatment method: Oral gentamicin 2-4 mL, twice a day. It is also possible to add 0.5% Jundu Liting to the feed to make pelleted feed and feed it to rabbits, which can prevent the disease.

Hair-eating disease

1. Rabbit feces symptoms: The feces are dry and hard, and the amount is small. The fecal pellets are in strings and contain rabbit hair, especially in young rabbits eating feed for the first time.

2. Treatment method: Hair-eating disease is also called hairball disease. To treat this disease, edible oil or laxatives can be fed, artificial salt can be administered orally, and the feeding amount of green feed should be increased. At the same time, the nest must be kept clean and hygienic.

Yellow urine disease in young rabbits

1. Rabbit feces symptoms: The feces are pale yellow and foul-smelling. The area around the anus of the young rabbits is contaminated by yellow urine, showing acute watery diarrhea, and generally the whole litter dies.

2. Treatment method: Yellow urine disease in young rabbits is caused by mastitis in the mother rabbit. To treat this disease, the mother rabbit should first be injected intramuscularly with penicillin, 800,000 IU each time, twice a day, for 2 consecutive days. For sick young rabbits, oral gentamicin or chloramphenicol, 4-5 drops each time, for 3 consecutive days, has a very good effect.
