What are the common pig farming equipment?

Pig farming equipment includes six major series: finishing pig pens, nursery beds, elevated nursery beds, nodular cast iron floors, elevated farrowing beds, and elevated birthing beds, among which there are many subcategories. How to choose pig farming equipment suitable for the scale and process of a pig farm is an important measure for improving production levels and economic benefits. Let's take a look below at what common pig farming equipment there is!

Farrowing pen

A single farrowing pen is 2.1 m long and 1.8 m wide. The middle is the sow pen, 1.1 m high and 0.6 m wide. On both sides of the sow pen are piglet activity areas, with a pen height of 0.5 m and a width of 0.45 m. To save floor space, the design uses two pens as one unit, with a space left in the middle for a warming box, 0.6 m wide. In an individual farrowing pen, the sow can avoid crushing the piglets, and it also provides a growing environment for the piglets, improving the piglet survival rate.

Nursery pen

The nursery pen consists of a steel woven mesh floor panel, 30×30×3 angle steel fencing (painted for corrosion protection), fencing 700 mm high, double-sided cast iron bottom feeders, and 2 sets of stainless steel drinkers. Newly weaned piglets have a weak constitution and poor disease resistance, and are prone to illness, so the nursery pen design is best made entirely of metal, with two litters per pen. Based on the floor area per piglet during the nursery period, 0.3 m is more suitable. The pen uses fully slatted floors and is equipped with automatic drinkers and free-access feeding boxes and other equipment.

Sow pen

In modern pig farms, the raising methods for breeding sows include three types: group raising in large pens divided into groups, individual raising in small pens, and combined group raising in large and small pens. Among these, individual limited keeping in small pens has a small floor area, makes it convenient to observe sow estrus and breed in time, and prevents sows from fighting over food or fighting each other, avoids mutual interference, and reduces mechanical abortion. However, individual small pens require large investment, and the sows have little exercise, which is not conducive to extending the service life of breeding sows. Their structures include solid, slatted...

Mating pen

Mating pens have a variety of design forms. Usually, an all-metal or semi-metal individual boar pen is designed, 2.8 m long and 2.4 m wide. In addition, it can also be designed as one unit, composed of 4 individual sow pens and 1 boar pen. In the unit, the boar pen is 2.7 m long, 2.4 m wide, and 1.2 m high. This combined pen is very convenient for observing and managing sow estrus and mating.

Growing pen

The growing pen uses an all-metal pen to maintain good ventilation. If investment is limited, a combination of brick wall partitions and metal pen doors can be used. The growing pen houses two litters per pen, the wall height is 0.8 m, and the area per pen is designed at 0.6 sq m per head. The growing pen is 0.9 m high and can be designed at 0.9 sq m per head.
