What medicine works fast when a pig has diarrhea?

Pig diarrhea is caused by impaired intestinal absorption. It is a syndrome whose basic clinical features are increased frequency of defecation, thin feces and bloody stool. It is not an independent disease, but a common and frequently occurring clinical syndrome caused by many factors or accompanying many diseases. Let us take a look below at what medicine makes a pig with diarrhea recover quickly!

What causes pig diarrhea?

1. Viral diseases: The main viruses causing diarrhea are rotavirus and coronavirus, such as transmissible gastroenteritis virus and porcine epidemic diarrhea virus, among others. There are also astrovirus, enteric adenovirus, small rotavirus, tiny reovirus, etc. The most prominent clinical manifestation is gastroenteritis, with symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. The diarrhea is mostly watery, containing no mucus or blood, often accompanied by low fever, and a few piglets may show respiratory symptoms such as coughing and runny nose.

2. Bacterial diseases: The main pathogens of invasive diarrhea are Salmonella, Pasteurella, Shigella, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, enteroinvasive Escherichia coli, etc. The main pathogens of non-invasive diarrhea are Vibrio species, enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli, pathogenic Escherichia coli, enteroadherent Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Aeromonas hydrophila, etc. Clinically, symptoms such as fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea and tenesmus can be seen.

3. Parasitic diseases: The most important pathogens causing parasitic diarrhea are Entamoeba histolytica and coccidia. Others such as Giardia, Strongyloides stercoralis, Balantidium coli, Trichostrongylus and Cryptosporidium can also cause diarrhea in animals. In addition, some parasites parasitic in the intestine, such as Ascaris, whipworm, hookworm and pinworm, may cause temporary diarrhea in animals during the course of infection.

4. Poisoning diseases: The main factors causing poisoning in pigs are arsenic, mercury, organophosphorus and zinc phosphide. Most animals show vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. Arsenic poisoning also shows bloody stool, dilated pupils, death from heart failure, and sometimes hematuria or proteinuria. Mercury poisoning also shows weakness, staggering, glossitis and paralysis, and loss of vision. Organophosphorus poisoning also shows constricted pupils. Zinc phosphide poisoning also shows a drop in body temperature, a garlic smell in vomit or feces, difficulty breathing, and sensitivity in the chest and abdomen.

What medicine is used for pig diarrhea?

1. When diarrhea occurs in pigs, the first thing is to ensure the body does not become dehydrated, and do not rush to use medicine to stop the diarrhea. Diarrhea itself is a defensive physiological function of the body; only diarrhea can expel toxic substances from the body and prevent death caused by endotoxin poisoning. Fluid and drinking water should be given first, then the cause should be found and treatment should target the cause.

2. When watery diarrhea occurs in pigs, it may be a mixed viral and bacterial infection. Feed should be reduced or stopped, and the body must be kept from becoming dehydrated. Use Changyijian by intramuscular injection, with a course of treatment of 2 to 3 days. In severe cases, first give one injection of atropine, then inject Changyijian, and orally give tannalbin plus gentamicin.

3. When pigs have watery diarrhea accompanied by fever, there may be viral diseases such as atypical swine fever, circovirus and pseudorabies. As long as the body temperature does not exceed 40.5°C, there is no need to rush to reduce the fever. When using medicine, some heat-clearing and detoxifying drugs plus antiviral drugs should be added. Changyijian plus cephalosporin can be used by intramuscular injection.

4. During treatment of pig diarrhea, the temperature and humidity inside the barn must be kept normal. Adding the mold remover Kemei and Heshengtai to the feed helps the disease heal better.

How is pig diarrhea prevented?

1. Strengthen feeding management, provide a suitable growing environment, prevent disease caused by sudden weather changes, control the appropriate stocking density, and disinfect the pens regularly, so as to achieve “dry pens, clean troughs, and well-raised pigs”.

2. Do routine vaccine immunization well, establish a scientific immunization program suitable for the pig farm, pay attention to the storage conditions and correct use of vaccines, and at least use one needle per pen of pigs.

3. Feed should often be supplemented with the mold remover Kemei, 500 grams mixed into 1000 jin of feed. For pig farmers who find mixing into feed inconvenient, the drinkable detoxifying and immunity-enhancing nutrient solution Bulaimie can be used, with 1 liter able to be added to 2 tons of drinking water.

4. Piglets should be given oral immune peptide on the day of birth, iron supplementation at 3 days, and creep feed at 5 to 7 days, with hawthorn slices used to supplement acid, to prevent the occurrence of diarrhea.

5. Sows should receive livestock inflammation health care and vaccine immunization before and after farrowing, to prevent the occurrence of diarrhea in piglets after birth.
