Key Technical Points for Crayfish Farming in High-Temperature Weather
The hot summer is not easy for farmers either. As summer temperatures in our country have continued to rise in recent years, the importance of high-temperature farming techniques has become ever greater, especially for a species like the crayfish that is raised in relatively shallow water and depends heavily on such practices. Below, QinNong Network takes everyone through the relevant issues in this area.

1. Aquatic Plant Management
Crayfish are basically always co-cultured with aquatic plants, because this gives the crayfish a high-quality growing environment. During summer farming, the size of the aquatic plants must be controlled: if they grow too tall they affect water quality, and if they are too small they are not good for shielding the crayfish from the high temperatures. So while ensuring daily growth of the aquatic plants, any that grow too large must be trimmed back. The aquatic plants must be distributed in patches, as only this can maximize shade and cooling for the crayfish.
2. Water Quality Control
The demands on water quality in summer are extremely high; poor water quality can easily lead to mass mortality of crayfish. First, the flow and exchange of the water must be ensured. Because the water used for raising crayfish is not very deep, static water in a scorching environment easily rises in temperature, which severely reduces the oxygen content. Second, in summer the water level should be appropriately deepened to avoid direct sunlight reaching the bottom. Finally, some algae can be grown on the bottom to improve the current water quality and also provide the crayfish with a better feeding environment.
3. Feeding Management
The feeding times for crayfish in summer must be chosen well. Generally they are fed only twice, when temperatures are lower in the early morning and evening; at midday, when the weather is hot, the crayfish's appetite is not high and feeding results are poor. The feeding duration should be longer than at other times of day, and the amount put in each time should be small to avoid waste; the feeding time is best kept to about one and a half hours. The feed is best if it has a somewhat higher protein content, as this helps improve the crayfish's resistance to high temperatures.
4. Daily Management
On summer nights, crayfish very much like to stay in shallow-water positions, so at this time everyone should patrol the pond more often to prevent some predatory pests from eating the crayfish in the pond. Second, it also prevents large-scale escape of crayfish at night. During the day, the residue at the bottom of the pond should be cleaned up in time; in summer, bottom residue very easily spoils, which can easily cause the crayfish to contract some diseases and can also easily damage water quality. Everyone must pay attention to this point.
The above are the methods for high-temperature crayfish farming. In summer, crayfish are relatively active when the sun is about to set and afterwards, so everyone needs to strengthen management during this time period, and the food fed can also be appropriately increased. The crayfish's ability to burrow and escape is recognized as excellent, so farmers should not be careless about the maintenance of their farming sites.
