Meat rabbit farming cost and profit analysis: is raising meat rabbits profitable?

Based on actual conditions, it is best to raise meat rabbits of the large Belgian, Japanese White (Large Eared White) or New Zealand White breeds. Their main use is for meat, which is rich in nutrients and ranks first among the meats of other livestock and poultry. With the improvement of people's living standards, rabbit meat is increasingly welcomed by consumers, and the price of pelts is also acceptable, so raising meat rabbits is an emerging high-efficiency industry. They breed quickly: one doe can produce an average of 6-8 litters per year; calculating on an average of 7 litters, with an average of 6 surviving per litter, each group (1 male and 4 females) can produce 168 marketable rabbits per year (that is, 7 litters × 6 rabbits × 4 does = 168 rabbits).
Breeding rabbit cost
1. Feed cost: each rabbit needs about 70 jin of mixed concentrate per year; at 0.6 yuan per jin, the annual average per rabbit is 42 yuan, and one group requires 42 yuan × 5 rabbits (including the male rabbit) = 210 yuan.
2. Epidemic prevention and medicine cost: 1 yuan per rabbit, so one group is 1 yuan × 5 = 5 yuan.
3. Depreciation and apportionment cost of breeding rabbits: calculated on three years of use, one group of breeding rabbits (average weight about 5.0 jin per rabbit), calculated at 400 yuan per group, after three years can be culled and recover 30 yuan (treated as marketable rabbits) × 5 rabbits = 150 yuan, actual loss 400-
150 = 250 yuan, then divided by 3 (years), that is, 83 yuan apportioned each year.
4. Total annual adult cost: 210 + 5 + 83 = 298 yuan.
Marketable rabbit cost
Each marketable rabbit generally needs to be raised for 90 days to reach about 5.0 jin, requiring 15 jin of concentrate (about 90 days); at 0.6 yuan per jin, that is 0.6 × 15 = 9.0 yuan; epidemic prevention and medicine cost is 1 yuan per rabbit; the subtotal is 10 yuan per rabbit, and each group has 4 rabbits (does) × 42 rabbits (number bred per doe) × 10 yuan (cost per rabbit) = 1680 yuan.
Benefit per group
1. Gross profit: calculated at the average price of recent years, that is, live rabbits of about 5.0 jin are about 5.0-6.0 yuan per jin; at 5.0 yuan per jin, selling 42 rabbits per year, with each rabbit weighing 5 jin, that is 42 rabbits × 5 jin × 4 rabbits (does per group) × 5 yuan = 4200 yuan.
2. Net profit: gross profit - breeding rabbit cost - marketable rabbit cost, that is 4200 yuan - 298 yuan - 1680 yuan = 2222 yuan.
Notes
1. The above feed prices are all calculated based on complete mixed feed; if made with your own raw materials, the price will be lower.
2. If the supply of green feed can be met year-round, less feed will be consumed and the cost will be lower.
3. Paying attention to scientific feeding methods will reduce costs, improve quality and increase benefits.
4. Even if the market conditions are poor, we have already given a minimum protective price, that is, 5.0 yuan per jin for rex rabbits and 4.5 yuan per jin for meat rabbits. In this way, one rabbit can still be sold for 25 yuan and more than 22.5 yuan, and farmers will still make a profit. Moreover, such low prices have not appeared in recent years.
5. Labor, green feed and other costs are not included in the cost calculation.
