Three simple ways to tell male from female meat pigeons

Hold the pigeon and use your right hand to bring its three toes together so they lie parallel. If the left toe is longer, it should be considered male; if they are all the same length, it should be considered female. Note that the length of a pigeon's two feet is basically the same, so checking both the left and right feet gives a more reliable result.

After holding the pigeon in your hand, gently pull its beak forward with your thumb and index finger, straighten it out, and let go immediately. If the pigeon pulls its head backward and jerks it back hard, it should be considered male. If the pigeon's beak makes a "smacking" sound two or three times, it should be considered female.

Hold the pigeon and use your hand to feel its pubic bones. If the pubic bones are parallel, it should be considered female. If the pubic bone on the left side is sunken inward and feels not parallel, it should be considered male.
