How to raise meat pigeons in winter? Five protective measures to remember

When winter temperatures drop, it is a difficult period for meat pigeon farming. When raising meat pigeons in winter, attention should be paid to 5 aspects: cold protection and warmth retention, disease prevention, drinking water hygiene, ventilation in the coop, and reasonable exercise.
Cold protection and warmth retention
In cold weather, doors and windows should be closed tightly, bedding material with good insulation performance should be added, and the coop should be kept dry and clean. Breeding should be arranged reasonably. When the coop temperature remains below 0°C for a long time, breeding should be stopped to let the breeding pigeons rest. In the daily feed, appropriately increase energy feed such as sesame and rapeseed.
Pay attention to disease prevention
In winter, meat pigeons are prone to respiratory diseases such as colds, cholera, and tracheitis, as well as external parasite infestations such as pigeon lice and fleas. The coop should be cleaned once a day, and disinfected once or twice a month with 5% Lysol or 0.1%-0.2% benzalkonium bromide solution. Observe the pigeon flock every morning and evening, and timely isolate and treat sick pigeons when found.
Drinking water hygiene
In winter, each meat pigeon drinks 20-30 milliliters of water. Ensure the drinking water is clean and hygienic. Do not let them drink water that is too hot or frozen. In severe cold weather, it is best to give warm water at 15°C-20°C.
Ventilation in the coop
In winter, while keeping the air in the coop fresh, it is also necessary to prevent cold. According to the weather, open doors and windows at fixed times and frequencies or use equipment for ventilation to exchange air.
Reasonable exercise
In winter, meat pigeons should mainly take sand baths, with water baths as a supplement, two or three times a month, depending on the weather and the pigeons' condition. Water baths should be carried out at 11 or 12 o'clock in the morning on sunny and warm days. For both water baths and sand baths, insecticides should be applied, such as 10%-20% lime milk or 01.% potassium permanganate solution, etc. On sunny and warm days, release the meat pigeons for exercise and sunbathing.
