How many koi should you keep for the best wealth luck?

Koi are the best first choice among feng shui fish: their colors are bright and varied, they are highly resilient, and they symbolize a colorful and abundant life, constant self-improvement and harmony. Many people believe the number of fish kept should be odd for good luck and even for bad luck, holding that even numbers belong to yin, or that the word "double" sounds like "harm," but this is not actually how it should be judged, because feng shui has other theoretical analyses. According to what is derived from the Hetu combined with the Luoshu, the best numbers of fish to keep are 1, 4, 6 and 9; 10 fish count as 1, 11 fish count as 2, and so on.

In China's traditional learning, nine is the most supreme and most yang number and carries an extremely noble meaning, and in feng shui there is also the saying "threes never end, sixes are endless." Six tancho koi represent "fortune year after year," while five red-and-white koi symbolize "five blessings arriving at the door." In addition, sayings such as "three rams bring peace" and "two dragons playing in the water" are also widely circulated.

How to keep koi

1. Water quality management: Koi are not strict about water temperature and water quality and are suited to living in slightly alkaline water with low hardness. But as the saying goes, "to keep fish, first keep the water," so never underestimate water quality; you should know that most koi diseases are caused by poor water quality.

2. Water temperature management: The water temperature range for koi is 2-30°C, and the most suitable water temperature is 20-25°C. In water at this temperature, koi swim actively, have a strong appetite, are robust and have vivid colors.

3. Stocking density: When keeping koi, pay attention to density. Generally, a 60×30×15 cm aquarium can keep 6 koi with a body length of 15-20 cm, a 90×30×50 one can hold 8, and a 110×30×50 cm one can hold 10.

4. Feeding: Koi are similar to goldfish in terms of care. They can be fed twice a day, and the amount of bait should be increased or decreased according to temperature in different seasons of the year. Generally, you can feed them fish worms, pellet feed, small earthworms and other bait, but do not feed too much; generally eight-tenths full is enough.

5. Fish disease prevention and treatment: Common koi diseases include water mold, gill rot, enteritis, scale protrusion and several others. Pay attention to administering the corresponding drugs and other treatments to improve the situation. Although koi diseases are unavoidable, it is still recommended to do a good job of preventing them.

6. Four-season management

① Spring: The weather turns warm but is still cold at times. Koi begin to revive from overwintering and should be moved from indoors to outdoors, but watch out for sudden temperature drops, cover with plastic film in time, and keep the water temperature stable. Feed mainly plant-based bait, increasing the amount gradually from small quantities.

② Summer: The weather is hot and scorching. A plastic shade net must be added to prevent direct sunlight, reducing sunlight intensity from 8000-12000 lux to 5500-5800 lux, which is most suitable.

③ Autumn: The weather has little rain and is mostly clear, and the water temperature drops noticeably. This is the most suitable time for koi growth, and the proportion of animal protein can be increased, such as silkworm pupae. Increase the feeding amount to promote fast growth.

④ Winter: The weather is relatively cold. When the air temperature drops to 0°C, koi should be moved indoors in time to overwinter in a pond, and the indoor water temperature should be kept at 2-10°C. Feed appropriately to maintain condition and prevent disease.
