China has over 170 million goats, of which, apart from dairy, cashmere, skin and wool goats, low-production meat goats and ordinary goats account for more than 100 million. Weiyan black goat has the characteristics of strong reproductive capacity, fast growth, large body size, high meat yield, good meat quality, excellent skin, stable heredity, wide adaptability and remarkable results in crossbreeding improvement of local goats.

It can be bred and conceived at 6 months of age, can produce 2 litters a year, or 3 litters in 2 years, with 1-3 kids per litter, sometimes as many as 4: the average lambing rate reaches about 236% per litter, body weight can reach 60-80 kg for ewes and 90-130 kg for rams, and body weight can be increased by 20%-30.

Among goat breeds in China, the Weiyan black goat has a large body size, high meat yield and good benefits. At present, all parts of the country have introduced and used it as a terminal crossbreeding paternal breed for breeding stock and meat goat production.

Practice has already proved that, whether viewed from ecological, economic and social effects, or from the needs of adjusting the industrial structure, improving people's lives and achieving universal genetic improvement, the development prospects of black goats are not just three or five years, nor ten or eight years, but broad and long-term.
