Key points to note in scallop farming

The scallop has extremely high utilization value; in other words, every part of it is a treasure. Its flesh is very delicious and highly nutritious, making it a delicacy on many people's dining tables. After processing, it is called dried scallop and has high market value. Today, the scallop farming industry is no small business, and many people have become rich through farming scallops, but many others have ended up bankrupt. Below are some issues to note when farming scallops, compiled by the editor, for your reference.

1. Variety

There are many varieties of scallops. According to relevant data, there are at least more than sixty varieties. Although there are so many varieties, most farms either farm a single variety of scallop or mix-farm one or two varieties. In fact, this is a very unfavorable phenomenon for the future development of farmers. Therefore, when farming scallops, it is best to choose four to five varieties for mixed farming. In this way, once one variety of scallop has a problem, the other scallops can replace it, so it will not cause major losses.

2. Water quality

Scallop farming has relatively high requirements for water quality, so we should pay attention to improving the water quality of the farm from multiple aspects. First, we should choose a water area with unpolluted water sources for farming. Second, we should use some agents that are harmless to scallops themselves to disinfect, treat sewage, and decompose and dissolve harmful substances to improve water quality. Usually it is used about once every ten days. This can effectively improve water quality without harming the scallops. Finally, we should clean the cages and other farming equipment irregularly, which can also help improve water quality to a certain extent.

3. Temperature

Temperature is an important factor affecting the growth of scallops. The suitable growth temperature for different varieties of scallops differs slightly, but it is usually around ten to fifteen degrees. Be sure to note that the water temperature must not be lower than five degrees, and the highest temperature must not exceed twenty degrees, otherwise it will cause a certain degree of mortality. Also note that the rise and fall of water temperature each day must not exceed three degrees, otherwise abnormalities will occur and diseases will be triggered. Therefore, we can install water temperature measuring equipment in the farm water, which can better reflect the growth condition of the scallops.

4. Density

When stocking scallops, they must be stocked strictly according to a reasonable density. Many people think that the more they stock, the more they will harvest, but facts have proved that this is not the case. This not only affects the growth rate of scallops but also affects their survival rate. Usually, we farm at a scale of at most one hundred scallops per layer of farming net cage, and at the same time, according to different growth stages and different growth conditions of the scallops, we carry out multiple rounds of group rearing.
