What are the key considerations for raising pigeons in a greenhouse

What should be noted when raising pigeons in a greenhouse

Pigeons are a highly profitable animal, and more and more people have begun trying to raise them in greenhouses. Although the emerging technique of greenhouse pigeon raising has advantages such as low cost, easy construction and relatively little difficulty in modification, it also comes with quite a few problems that deserve your attention.

1. Breed selection

Greenhouse pigeon raising is a very common method, but it does not apply to all groups. It is still not suitable for racing pigeons, competition pigeons or ornamental pigeons to be kept in greenhouse flocks, as this will affect the development of their muscles and feathers. However, it is the most money-saving and most practical method for raising meat pigeons. Here we recommend the kilogram pigeon, independently improved and optimized in China, which has strong adaptability and fast growth during the squab stage; or the high-quality foreign breed the White King pigeon, which has the characteristics of being large with plenty of meat, a relatively low price and a short growth cycle.

2. Classification of pigeon houses

Pigeon houses generally come in two types: group housing and cage housing. Pigeons have different raising needs at different stages. Group housing is suitable from 25 days after hatching to 6 months of age, that is, before their first estrus. They can be kept in a room 3-4 m long, 1.5-2 m wide and 2-3 m high, in groups of at most 50. But be careful to distinguish males from females; it is best not to let them live together mixed, so as to avoid unnecessary interference that affects their later normal development and reproductive function. Because pigeons follow a monogamous mating system, cage housing is generally suitable for breeding pigeons that have entered estrus, which helps them raise offspring more efficiently, cultivate better genes, and is also easier to manage and observe. For building pigeon houses, materials with stronger water repellency are mostly chosen, for better results.

3. Disease prevention

Pigeons are extremely cleanliness-loving animals, and in large-scale farming, if professional prevention and treatment are not carried out, it is very easy to cause large-scale infection by pathogens. Keep the pigeon house dry, and be careful to deal with droppings and food residue in time. When signs such as excitement or poor spirits, throwing up food, being pecked and injured, unclear eyes or inability to stand on the legs are found, isolate the birds promptly. Moreover, after each batch of squabs hatches, pathogens are very easily left behind, so be sure to remember to disinfect the pigeon house. Temperature and humidity are also relatively sensitive matters for pigeons; when summer is hot, avoid direct sunlight.

4. Observation and recording

If you want to reach a certain scale of farming or bring greater economic benefits, you need to persist in keeping good pigeon records and a reasonable daily routine. Each batch of squabs must be distinguished, as pigeons of different ages also have different nutritional needs.

With the progress of the times and people's rising pursuit of quality of life, and since both pigeon meat and pigeon eggs are of quite high value, raising pigeons is undoubtedly a means and way to get rich. I believe that under your careful and scientific raising, the pigeons will surely become stronger and stronger and their quality better and better. I also wish you great wealth!
