Several Common Diseases in Duck Farming and Their Prevention and Treatment Methods
Ducks are a type of poultry that is relatively prone to hygiene-related problems, and most of their illnesses are caused to a large extent by poor sanitation, so duck farming places great emphasis on hygiene. So which diseases are ducks prone to? Today, Qinnongwang will give everyone a brief introduction to some of the more common illnesses.

1. Duck Plague
This is a disease with a relatively high mortality rate in ducks and belongs to illnesses that easily cause group infections. The symptoms are fairly obvious: in the early stage, ducks appear listless, with slack wings, unsteady walking, and a drooping, shaking head. In the middle and later stages, fairly severe pus-like discharge appears on the ducks' bodies. Their eyes become bloodshot, the head swells, and bleeding also accompanies the tail area. Generally, after discovery, isolation treatment should be carried out first, after which the breeding ducks must all be injected with duck virus antiserum, with the injection amount at more than three times the usual dose.
2. Avian Aspergillosis
This is a frequently occurring disease among poultry, and ducks are also extremely susceptible to infection. Its danger lies in the fact that it easily causes ducks to suffocate to death. The symptoms manifest as listlessness, squatting for long periods unwilling to move, swelling of the duck's neck and trachea, accompanied by breathing difficulties. The easiest thing to observe is that the droppings appear green and watery. Affected ducks need to be fed enrofloxacin along with their feed until their condition improves. Other ducks should be fed penicillin mixed into their food to prevent infection.
3. Viral Hepatitis
This is a condition that comes on very quickly; once it strikes, it can cause death in just half a day, so everyone must detect and treat it in advance. It generally occurs mostly in ducklings. In the early stage, it manifests as difficulty moving, occasional diarrhea, and the whole duck being unable to move like a piece of wood, with a tilting to one side occurring when squatting. Fortunately, there are clear medications used to treat it, and the more suitable one is duck viral hepatitis yolk antibody, whose effect is considered quite obvious.
4. E. coli
This disease is mostly caused by inadequate human management. Generally, duck eggs first carry this type of pathogen, and then the sanitation environment after hatching is substandard, combined with the relatively concentrated management method for ducklings, which triggers duck colibacillosis. The symptoms manifest as diarrhea, and pressing the belly will cause it to slowly bulge out through the feather covering. The air sac area will show congestion. At present, this disease is generally prevented by vaccinating in advance, and the more effective vaccine recommended is the E. coli inactivated oil emulsion vaccine.
Duck farming still requires more observation, because many duck diseases are very easily contagious, so everyone must pay more attention in this regard. Secondly, treatment must be timely to avoid causing greater harm. Everyone must treat the disease with the right medicine, otherwise it is even more likely to harm the ducks.
