Yuanbao chicken breeding techniques

Many people are not familiar with the Yuanbao chicken. It is a precious breed with a glossy all-black body that closely resembles a black gold ingot, which is why it is named "gold ingot" (Yuanbao), and it has a certain ornamental value. So how should it be raised? Let's take a look below at the breeding techniques for Yuanbao chickens with Qinnong Web.

1. Breeding characteristics

The feed and management for Yuanbao chickens are the same as for other breeds, but because of their smaller body size, their feed intake is also less than that of other chicken breeds; compared with other chicken breeds, they can save 40%-50% of feed. In addition, they have extremely strong stress resistance, are highly cold-tolerant and heat-tolerant, and can grow and develop normally in both severe cold and extreme heat. They can be raised in all regions throughout all four seasons, with a survival rate of over 95%. They also have very strong disease resistance; as long as the rearing environment is kept hygienic and feeding is scientific, they generally do not get sick. They also have the characteristics of low investment, quick results, simple rearing, and high returns. From hatching to market, it takes only 3 months, and if raised for ornamental purposes, the economic benefits are even higher.

2. Raising chicks

After hatching, chicks must be raised in a brooding room, and four points must be achieved. First, temperature: the temperature of the brooding room must be 33-35°C within three days after hatching, and as the chicks' age in days increases, the temperature can be appropriately lowered, generally by 1-2°C per week. Second, before the chicks start eating, they should first be given 0.01% potassium permanganate drinking water; third is the issue of rearing density: chicks are generally raised at about 10 birds per sq m, and this should be appropriately reduced as their age in days increases; fourth, chicks are susceptible to pullorum disease and coccidiosis, so prevention and control measures should be taken. After the disease occurs, oxytetracycline can be mixed into the feed or low-concentration penicillin-streptomycin drinking water can be provided.

3. Raising growing chickens

When the chicks reach 1 month of age, they can all be transferred to the growing chicken house for rearing. At this time, the chickens already have a certain adaptability to temperature, but low temperatures will still have some effect on them, so attention should be paid to keeping them warm at night. For feeding, feed with a crude protein content of 19% can be used, paired with some green feed. When they reach 70 days of age, the proportion of protein in the feed can be reduced. In addition, some perches can be appropriately set up in the rearing environment so that they maintain a certain amount of activity and the meat develops a more gamey flavor. When they reach 90-120 days of age, they can be sold.

4. Raising breeding chickens

When selecting chickens to keep for breeding, be sure to choose those that are robust in size and outstanding in breed characteristics, and limited feeding must begin at 3 months of age, reducing the protein in the feed to about 13%, with each feeding at about 25-35 grams. When they begin laying eggs, gradually increase the proportion of protein and add some trace elements and minerals. The rearing density should be 5-7 birds per sq m, with a male-to-female ratio of 1:8, and artificial supplementary lighting should be used. When the hens reach 140 days of age, they can lay eggs.
