How to improve the survival rate of free-range chicken farming

Free-range chicken farming is the most common farming project in China, and it is also one of the larger farming industries in the country. The meat of free-range chickens is very delicious, has a chewy texture, and is also very good for people's health. Free-range chicken eggs are also a commodity with relatively high economic value on the market. However, during the farming process, many people often experience mass deaths and cannot properly control the survival rate of free-range chickens. So how can the survival rate of free-range chicken farming be improved? Let's take a look together below!

1. Breed selection

When farming, choosing the breed of chicken is very important, because choosing a good breed is the key to successful farming. Excellent breeds have a series of advantages such as strong disease resistance, relatively good meat quality, and high egg production. Breeds are generally broiler chickens, laying hens, or dual-purpose breeds. In China, for example, Chongren Partridge Chicken and others are relatively high-quality breeds. When selecting chicks, you must choose a farm with a production and operation license and confirm that the chicks have no diseases, especially infectious diseases, before they can be raised together as a flock.

2. Site selection

The place where free-range chickens are raised should be selected and established away from residential areas, factories, or major traffic routes and other noisy and polluted places. There should be no pollution sources nearby, and it should be on barren hills or higher ground with low foot traffic. The trees on the hill should not be too large, the tree crowns should be relatively small, and fruit trees should be relatively sparse. The surface of the farming site should have abundant vegetation, and at least half of the terrain should be flat. It should also face away from the wind and toward the sun, be hot and dry, have sufficient water sources, and have convenient drainage and irrigation. However, note that it must not be established in riverside areas.

3. Chicken coop construction

The construction of the chicken coop does not need to be too elaborate; simple and easy is enough. In places with relatively poor conditions, bamboo or cement can be used to build a simple chicken coop about 2 m high. The top needs to be covered with tiles, and the surroundings can be blocked with plastic sheeting. Open one entrance at each end of the shed to facilitate the entry and exit of chickens and keepers, and also to enhance the ventilation of the chicken coop. Note that the shed supports should be fastened firmly with wire. Generally, the shed is constructed with a width and length of about 5*10 m and a height of about 2 m.

4. Feed selection

The quality of the feed directly determines the quality and yield of free-range chickens and free-range chicken eggs. During the brooding period of free-range chickens, the main feed is complete chick feed. After they grow up, free-range raising mainly uses self-prepared mixed feed. The mixed feed includes concentrate feed, green feed, and fresh live feed, among others. The concentrate feed is mainly crops such as corn, supplemented by young seedlings, with an appropriate addition of some compound premix. Choose a suitable raising site. The site must not be too damp and needs a dry environment. Only in this way can the normal growth of free-range chickens be effectively ensured.

The above is a brief introduction on how to improve the survival rate of free-range chickens. In fact, it is about managing all aspects of free-range chickens well and doing a good job in the hygiene of the chicken coop. Only by giving free-range chickens a normal and good growth environment can their survival rate be effectively improved. However, if there is no correct farming management method, then certain risks will still exist. This article is for reference only, and I hope it is helpful to everyone.
