Artificial Sturgeon Farming Methods

Sturgeon is a very ancient creature on Earth, and every part of it is valuable. For example, sturgeon meat can treat back pain, stomach pain, and so on; sturgeon liver can treat sores and scabies; the roe can beautify the skin and kill human parasites; and the sturgeon swim bladder has good effects on malignant tumors as well as gynecological and andrological diseases. As for the rest, we will not list them one by one here. So today Qinnongwang brings you information on artificial sturgeon farming methods. Let us take a look together.

1. Farming Preparation

Before farming sturgeon, sufficient preparation is needed, because sturgeon is a warm-water fish, so it has certain requirements in all respects. As for the farming site, the area must not be less than five mu, and preferably six to nine mu is suitable. Next, the pond water should be relatively deep, and the water quality should be clean and pollution-free. The transportation near the farming site should be relatively convenient. A dedicated feeding platform should be set up in the farming site, and oxygen-increasing agents or oxygen supply equipment should also be prepared. Then, after the farming site is built, it needs to be cleaned thoroughly and disinfected with quicklime. After leaving it for three or four days, drain the water, and the disinfection is considered complete. Finally, before stocking, pour chicken manure or the manure of other livestock into the pond to cultivate plankton, so that after the fry are put in, they can forage and adapt to the new environment more quickly.

2. Fry Selection

The quality of fry selection largely determines the survival rate of the fry and the later reproduction rate. We should choose healthy sturgeon fry without disease. The sturgeon fry are best about twenty cm, with intact scales, fins, and so on, and they should be relatively lively and active, looking very nimble when swimming in the water. Basically, there will be no mistake with sturgeon fry like this.

3. Fry Stocking

Before stocking sturgeon fry, there is one more thing we must do, which can reduce fry losses to a certain extent. First, put about ten of the purchased sturgeon fry into the farming pond. After two days, observe whether the fry show anything unusual. If death occurs or the fry clearly lose their vitality, then it is not suitable to stock fish, and the pond must be cleaned again. If everything is normal, then you can stock with confidence.

4. Feeding Management

If you are worried that other problems may occur with the fry put into the pond, then we can add a little salt to the water so that the pond water contains a certain salinity, but do not add too much, otherwise the sturgeon fry will not be able to adapt and will stop eating. Feeding mainly combines the plankton in the water with feed. When feeding, be sure to note that the feed can be less but must never be too much, because sturgeon is relatively foolish, so it can be overfed to death. Feed several times a day as much as possible, with an appropriate amount each time. Next, sturgeon has relatively high requirements for water quality. Generally, for newly purchased fry, we should persist in changing the water once a day. After they have slightly adapted to the environment, changing the water about once a week is enough, while for adult sturgeon, changing the water once every half month is fine. Finally, the leftover feed residue on the feeding platform in the fish pond should be cleaned up in time, otherwise when the fish get hungry they will eat the spoiled feed and trigger disease.

5. Disease and Pest Control

The main diseases and pests of sturgeon are mainly bacterial infection or fungal infection, as well as big belly disease and parasites. Diseases caused by fungal infection are manifested as refusal to eat, lack of movement, and so on, and we should use table salt and baking soda for prevention and control. Bacterial infection, on the other hand, is manifested as failure to grow, bleeding, and so on, and Chinese herbal medicine can be used for prevention and control, and Chinese herbal medicine can also be used for prevention and control of parasites. At the same time, when rearing, we should strengthen feeding management and improve feed quality and nutritional composition.
