Puffer Fish Farming Methods and Key Technical Points Explained
The puffer fish is a very cute fish, but although cute, it is highly toxic, and when it encounters danger it will inflate its entire body, all covered in spines, making it impossible to approach. Although the puffer fish contains relatively high toxins, the toxins are mostly concentrated in the liver, gonads and blood, so after being cleaned thoroughly it can still be eaten. The puffer fish is very rich in protein and highly nutritious. So how should puffer fish be farmed? Let's take a look below!

1. Pond selection
For a puffer fish farming pond, you must first choose a place with an abundant water source, no water quality pollution, and little year-round water temperature variation. If choosing semi-saline or freshwater farming, build the pond in a place where pumping water is relatively easy, the route is not far, and the lift is relatively low. The pond bottom must not leak or seep water, and the pond should be far away from noisy places and kept quiet, for example far from urban areas and factories. However, convenient transportation and communications must be ensured, and it must be able to effectively withstand the impact of storms or heavy rain.
2. Stocking of fingerlings
When farming puffer fish, in order to ensure the quality of the fingerlings, you should choose authentic fingerlings, selecting varieties with a robust constitution, no diseases or injuries, little difference in size, and strong upstream-swimming ability as the main farming subjects. After purchasing the fingerlings, during transport they should be placed in plastic bags and transported with oxygen added; generally a fingerling about 4 cm long can be packed at about 120 per bag, and transport can last up to 8 hours, with a survival rate of at least 90%. Before stocking, the fingerlings should be disinfected, and as the fish grow, start catching the large ones and keeping the small ones, implementing thinning-out farming.
3. Taming and feeding
During the farming process, the puffer fish should be properly tamed; after taming, some minced fish, shrimp or snail meat can be fed, using these fresh meats as the opening feed for the puffer fish. Then carry out domestication so that they gradually adapt to the farming environment and bait; after they gradually adapt, mix artificial feed into the bait and gradually increase the amount until they finally feed entirely on artificial feed. The bait is mainly eel feed, and when feeding it should be at a fixed location, at a fixed time, in a fixed amount, and of fixed quality. Generally they are fed twice a day.
4. Water quality regulation
The puffer fish is a fish with great demands on water quality; it likes clear, clean water quality. The farming pond should, according to the color of the pond water, water quality, transparency, as well as the growth rate and feeding situation of the puffer fish, add new water at irregular intervals. A major water change is needed once a month to improve water quality. The lowest growth temperature for puffer fish must not be below 9°C, and the highest must not be above 32°C, so you must always pay attention to the water temperature changes in the pond, pay attention to warming or cooling it in time, and also observe changes in dissolved oxygen; if oxygen is insufficient, add oxygen in time.
The above is a brief introduction to puffer fish farming methods. Although farming puffer fish has relatively high economic value, it requires a correct farming method. When farming, everyone should pay special attention to the occurrence of diseases, inspect the pond regularly every day, and if any abnormal situation is found, it must be handled in time to prevent unnecessary losses.
