Detailed Explanation of Key Technical Points for Sheep Farming Management
Sheep have full bodies and dense wool. Besides being used as meat sheep, with the development of the textile industry, their wool is also increasingly used in textiles, making it an important textile raw material with extremely high economic value. When raising sheep, in addition to the two key points of housing and feeding, other feeding and management techniques must also be mastered to raise sheep well. Let's take a look at sheep farming management techniques with Qinnong Network.

1. Docking
Docking is mainly carried out on long-tailed sheep. The purpose is for cleanliness and breeding. If the tail is too long, it is inconvenient to clean the tail area, and it easily breeds bacteria and causes disease infections, and it is also unfavorable for breeding. Docking is done during the lamb period, and can be carried out 7-10 days after the lamb is born. The method is to use a rubber band commonly found in our daily lives, tie the rubber band tightly at a position one cun from the base of the lamb's tail, making sure it is tied tightly, then apply iodine or a disinfectant. After about one and a half months, the tail withers and falls off due to poor blood circulation and insufficient nutrient supply.
2. Castration
Castration refers to ligating or gelding rams that will not be used as breeding sheep. The purpose is to reduce the incidence of disease in rams, improve disease resistance, and promote rapid growth, which is beneficial for gaining and maintaining body condition. This is also done during the lamb period, after the male lamb is two weeks old. Rubber bands are still used as the tool, tied tightly at the spermatic cord. After about 20 days, it dries up and falls off. Surgical removal of the testicles can also be performed.
3. Hoof Trimming
When raising sheep, long-term barn feeding can cause abnormal hoof growth in sheep, with hooves growing crooked to one side, affecting the sheep's walking activity and feed intake. Therefore, at the transition between spring and summer each year, the hoof growth condition should be checked in time, and sheep with abnormal hoof growth should be trimmed. The trimming method is to soak the hooves after rain or in water to soften them, then lay the sheep on the ground and trim the hooves. Do not trim too much at one time during trimming, so as not to injure the sheep. For irregular hoof shapes, multiple trimmings can correct them.
4. Medicated Bathing
Medicated bathing is to eliminate external parasites on the sheep's body surface and prevent skin diseases. Medicated bathing is generally carried out 7-10 days after shearing on a sunny day. When there are many sheep to be bathed, a dipping pool needs to be prepared, while when there are fewer sheep, a basin or bucket can be used.
5. Deworming
Deworming mainly eliminates parasites in the sheep's gastrointestinal tract. Gastrointestinal parasites are highly harmful. When the disease is severe, in mild cases it causes reduced feed intake and gradual emaciation in sheep, and in severe cases it leads to death, causing certain economic losses to farmers. Deworming is generally carried out in spring and summer. Special deworming medication can be mixed into feed and fed, calculated at a ratio of 20 mg per kg, with excellent deworming results.
