How to raise Hu sheep well

Hu sheep are mainly raised in the Taihu Plain area. They have extremely strong reproductive capacity, grow and develop quickly, produce a high meat yield, and have good meat quality. They are a very important breeding project in China. However, raising Hu sheep requires certain breeding experience and breeding techniques to do well. Below, let us follow Qinnong Network to learn how to raise Hu sheep well.

1. Breeding preparation

If you want to raise Hu sheep well, then the preparatory work must be quite thorough. First, we need to build the breeding site according to the growth habits of Hu sheep. Hu sheep like a dry and clean environment, so we can build raised beds in the breeding site. This keeps it clean and can maintain dryness, while also making cleaning convenient. Second, the sheep shed should remain ventilated. A fence-style enclosure can be chosen, with railings dividing it into individual pens each with an area of 30 sq m, and then each individual pen should have separate feed troughs and water troughs.

2. Selection of breeding sheep

The selection of breeding sheep is one of the most basic conditions for raising Hu sheep well. First, we need to understand the growth situation of the Hu sheep flock across generations, then select high-quality breeds from them, and then observe whether the Hu sheep's body is strong, whether the limbs are powerful, whether the coat color is smooth, whether the head is slightly heavy, and whether the neck is wide and long. If they meet these conditions, then they are relatively high-quality male Hu sheep breeding stock. For female Hu sheep breeding stock, the back and waist are required to be relatively wide and long; next, the skin should be good, the lips should be relatively thin, and the rear half of the body should be relatively wide. Only female sheep like this are good at reproducing.

3. Feeding management

For feeding Hu sheep, we need to feed them according to different situations. First is the male Hu sheep during the non-mating period. We mainly use corn, bran, rapeseed, and other ingredients to make a concentrate for feeding, in order to promote its growth and development, thereby improving its physical condition. Second is the female Hu sheep during the non-pregnancy period. We usually use corn, soybean meal, baking soda, and other ingredients for mixing and feeding. Whether male or female sheep, they need to be fed three times a day. For male Hu sheep during the mating period, in addition to concentrate, we also need to feed an appropriate amount of green fodder every day. For pregnant female sheep, we mainly feed green fodder and use as little concentrate as possible, which is beneficial to the growth and development of the fetus.

4. Daily management

In the process of raising Hu sheep, daily management is also a relatively important part. We need to regularly clean the sheep pen and disinfect the breeding site. Usually, small breeding sites can use plant ash for disinfection, while large breeding sites will have their own disinfection equipment. Second, disinfection should be carried out at least once every half month. Then, in ordinary times, we need to trim the hooves and trim the hair of the Hu sheep. Finally, we should give them medicated baths at irregular intervals, which can remove external bacteria and parasites, thereby promoting the growth rate of Hu sheep.
