Jasmine Family Cultivation Methods and Daily Care Tips

How do you grow jasmine at home? Actually, jasmine is quite easy to grow. Compared with flowers such as Phalaenopsis orchids and peonies, growing jasmine is relatively simple. But if you want to grow jasmine well and extend its flowering period, it still takes some effort.
Once the flowers bloom, they must be picked off, and two-thirds of the branch that has flowered must be cut off, because old jasmine branches do not bloom. Only after cutting them off will new branches emerge and produce more flowers.
Pay attention to topdressing. You can buy a compound fertilizer specially made for jasmine; the usage and dosage are stated on the instructions. Never apply too much fertilizer, or it will burn the flowers to death. From then on, every spring when you repot, the potting soil must be topdressed, so do not apply too much fertilizer at ordinary times either. Even more, do not put organic matter into the flowerpot, as it will attract insects.
Before frost falls, jasmine must be moved indoors; jasmine is not cold-tolerant. After Qingming the following year, move it back outside to get sunlight.
Do not be reluctant to do it. After the flowering period ends each autumn, jasmine must be pruned, cutting the whole plant down to 20--30cm tall. Only in this way will it send out more new branches the following year and produce more flowers.
Prevent and control pests and diseases. Jasmine is a flower that is not easily affected by pests, but if you want it to bloom well, it is still necessary to take some essential preventive measures. Red spider mites are one of the more common pests when growing jasmine, and the corresponding specialized pesticide is easy to buy, so I will not go into detail. What needs attention is that when spraying the pesticide solution, do not only focus on spraying the jasmine leaves and flowers; the soil must also be sprayed, otherwise the pest problem will not be treated thoroughly. For leaves that are already infected, they should be removed promptly.
