Dichondra Seed Prices and Planting Methods

Dichondra, also known as lotus-bud grass, golden key, copper coin grass, etc., is a perennial creeping small herbaceous plant of the genus Dichondra in the Convolvulaceae family. It is found in all provinces south of the Yangtze River in China, and its distribution can be called a "green carpet." It is suitable for cultivation and ornamental use in parks, government offices, courtyard green spaces, etc., and can also be used as a soil-fixing material for ditch slopes, embankment slopes, roadsides, etc. Now let us take a look at dichondra seed prices and planting methods!

How much does a jin of dichondra seeds cost?

The price of dichondra seeds is about 30-40 yuan per jin, but prices vary depending on seed quality, variety, place of origin, market, etc. Dichondra has emerald green leaves, a low-growing habit, dense and attractive leaves, tolerance to light foot traffic, vigorous vitality, strong stress resistance, wide adaptability, and low requirements for growing conditions. It requires no pruning and has both ornamental value and the functions of fixing soil, protecting slopes, greening, and purifying the environment. As an excellent ground cover plant, it has been widely used in the northern subtropical regions of southern China.

Sowing Methods for Dichondra

1. Sowing time: For dichondra, spring sowing is best in April-May, and autumn sowing is best in September-October. When the soil temperature reaches 21°C, it is the best time to sow. The sowing rate is 10-15 grams per square meter. Before sowing, soaking the seeds in 50 mg/kg GA for 4 hours gives better results.

2. Sowing method: When sowing dichondra, drill or broadcast the treated seeds on a prepared seedbed, then rake the soil so the seeds enter the soil 1-2 cm deep, press the soil, and cover with non-woven fabric or straw curtains to increase temperature and maintain humidity, promoting uniform emergence and improving the emergence rate.

Planting Methods for Dichondra

1. Fertilizing: After spring planting of dichondra, foliar topdressing can be applied 15 to 20 days later, with 2.5 kg of urea per mu. From the end of March to the beginning of April, apply a compound fertilizer once, with 10 kg per mu. In August to September, apply topdressing again, with 50 kg of superphosphate and 25 kg of potassium sulfate per mu.

2. Watering: Dichondra prefers shade. To ensure that dichondra can also grow luxuriantly and keep normal leaf color from June to September, it is necessary to supplement water appropriately during dry periods. Each watering should penetrate to a depth of 10 cm. Watering should be done in the evening, and automatic sprinkler irrigation should be used as much as possible.

3. Weeding: Dichondra is short with fine leaves, has strong spreading ability, and tolerates extensive management. However, during the period when spot-planted grass blocks have not yet fully covered the ground, weeds need to be removed. Afterward, by taking advantage of rainy days or after watering, weeds can be pulled by hand.

4. Spiking: After 2-3 years of cultivation, dichondra's rhizomes become densely packed together, which can easily cause soil compaction and affect aeration and water infiltration. Depending on the situation, spiking can be done, or a knife or shovel can be used to cut lines and sever the grass roots to increase soil looseness.

5. Pests and diseases: From June to September, dichondra is subject to intermittent major outbreaks of the tobacco cutworm, which is highly damaging. Once discovered, 80% dichlorvos emulsifiable concentrate and 40% dimethoate emulsifiable concentrate can be mixed to prepare a 300-fold solution, and spraying in the evening gives good control results.
