What to Do If You Overwater an Aloe

Aloe is a plant native to the Mediterranean region and Africa, and it is also a plant commonly seen in our daily lives. Because of the climate conditions of its place of origin, aloe has a strong drought tolerance, and therefore does not tolerate waterlogging either. People often drown their aloe simply because they do not understand this trait of the plant. Below, Qinnong Network will explain what to do after you have watered your aloe too much.

I. How to Handle Overwatering an Aloe

If during cultivation you notice the aloe's leaves turning yellow or black, it may be because it has been overwatered, and you must take some measures to save it.

If you overwatered it in the early stage and noticed it in time, the damage is not yet that serious. You can immediately take the aloe plant out of the flowerpot and let the water evaporate quickly.

If it has been overwatered for a long time, the aloe may already have developed yellowing and rot. At this point, stop watering immediately and let the aloe recover on its own for a while. If it can recover, you can simply go back to normal care afterwards. If the aloe still does not improve after you stop watering, it is very likely that root rot has set in. In that case, take the aloe plant out, remove the rotted roots, and also pluck off any leaves that are severely rotted, then place it in a dry, shady spot. After leaving it there for one or two days, replant it in dry soil. For some time afterwards, do not water it again; you can just mist it to keep the aloe from getting too dry.

II. The Correct Way to Water an Aloe

To completely avoid waterlogging in aloe, we need to master the correct watering method.

When watering an aloe, you need to water appropriately according to the changes of the seasons. When the temperature is relatively high, you can water a bit more; in summer, when the temperature is high and evaporation is strong, you also need to mist it. When the temperature is low, reduce watering; especially in winter, you need to keep the soil dry.

That is what Qinnong Network has to share about the problem of overwatering an aloe. Did you ever imagine that something as simple as watering a plant could involve so many related issues? So before cultivating a plant, we should first know its growth habits, otherwise even the easiest plant to grow will end up with problems.
