How to manage a cattle farm to prevent diseases

Cattle farming is currently one of the largest livestock farming projects in our country. You can raise beef cattle, breeding cattle, dairy cattle, and so on, and these types of cattle all have very high market value. However, during the process of cattle farming, some diseases are unavoidable, and the occurrence of diseases is mainly caused by unsuitable surrounding conditions. So what issues should a cattle farm pay attention to? What are the precautions for beginners in cattle farming? Let's take a look below.

1. Site selection for the cattle farm

To prevent and control diseases, first of all the cattle farm should be built on high ground, dry, flat, and open terrain, far away from urban areas, and it should not be built in a noisy place, at least 1 km away from residential areas. The layout of the cattle farm must also be set up accordingly, for example, walls should be used to separate the living area, production area, and various other areas. A disinfection pool should be set up at the entrance and exit of each area, and higher-risk areas such as the manure yard and sick cattle shed should be located at least 300 m away from the production and living areas, to prevent the spread of pathogens and maintain surrounding hygiene.

2. Disinfection system

When there is no essential need, the cattle farm should prohibit outsiders from entering to visit, and a disinfection pool containing a high-concentration disinfectant solution should be set up at the entrances of various areas, with the disinfectant solution in the pool replaced regularly. Workers entering each area must change into non-toxic work clothes, and use ultraviolet light for disinfection before entering. All people or vehicles entering the cattle farm must be disinfected to avoid bringing in pathogens from outside. The cattle farm should maintain a hygienic environment, with no odors and no cow manure. Good ventilation inside the cattle farm should be ensured, disinfection should be carried out at least once every half month, and the tools in the cattle farm should be disinfected frequently.

3. Quarantine and deworming

If you are raising cattle for the first time or need to buy calves because the cows' output is insufficient, you must buy them from places free of disease and outside epidemic areas, and the calves must also be disinfected when they enter the farm. Newly purchased calves must not be immediately raised together with older cattle. The new cattle should first be raised separately for about half a month, and only after no abnormalities are found should they be raised together. According to the cattle farm's environment and weather conditions, deworming should be carried out reasonably, generally with two large-scale deworming treatments in spring and autumn.

4. Insect control and manure clearing

Cow manure contains a great many pathogens and insect eggs. If it is not cleaned up in time, it will lead to the breeding of pathogens, is extremely easy to spread, and is also an environment with a high incidence of various infectious diseases and parasites. Therefore, manure and other polluting substances should be piled together with some chemicals for fermentation and disinfection, using high temperatures to kill pathogens and reduce the incidence of various infectious diseases and parasites. Some mosquitoes and insects are also transmission agents of these diseases, so insecticides should be used to spray and eliminate mosquitoes and insects.

The above is about the preparations a cattle farm should make when raising cattle. Disinfection of the cattle farm is very important. Of course, it also depends on the scale of the cattle farm. If the scale is relatively large, disinfection is essential. Judge whether cattle are infected based on their reactions and condition. If they are infected, the sick cattle should be handled promptly, isolated, and treated. To learn more related information, please continue to follow Qinnong Web!
