How to Raise Landrace Pigs? A Detailed Guide to Scientific Feeding and Management Techniques
Pork is one of the meats that every household eats regularly. Currently, most of the pigs sold on the market are basically white pigs, and among white pigs, Landrace and Large White pigs are the most commonly raised. So how should these pigs generally be raised for the best returns? Qinnong Net will give you a general explanation here.

1. Breeding Environment
Many farmers think the environment has little effect on pigs, so they do not pay much attention to daily management, because managing pig pens is indeed very time-consuming and labor-intensive. Actually, this is wrong. Landrace pigs are generally raised as lean-meat pigs, so first, try to keep the temperature at around 21 degrees, as this will make the pigs' lean meat grow fastest; second, the pig house should have good ventilation, and the humidity should be controlled at around 50%, so that the pigs will be more active in this environment and have less fat. In addition, pig manure should preferably be cleaned twice a day, in the morning before feeding and in the afternoon after feeding. Only in this way will the pigs grow healthily. Generally, 4-5 pigs per pen is more suitable.
2. Feeding and Food Supply
Landrace pigs are generally fed three times a day, morning, noon, and evening. Do not feed only commercial feed; it is necessary to properly feed some plant-based forage. When feeding, rice husks can be ground and mixed with wet feed, which will be more nutritious and also more conducive to the pigs' absorption. After Landrace pigs reach 100 jin, feed should not be given excessively, as this will increase the pigs' fat and is not conducive to lean meat production. The evening feeding time should not be too late, as this easily causes fat deposition in pigs.
3. Disease Prevention
Landrace pigs are considered a relatively fragile breed of pig. The most common illness in piglets is diarrhea, and if not discovered in time, it can easily lead to the death of Landrace pigs. If piglets are found to have poor appetite during feeding or their manure is thin and yellow, more attention should be paid. Diarrhea generally requires medication treatment, and vaccines can also be given in advance. The causes are basically improper sanitation and disinfection and overly monotonous feed. Adult pigs are prone to cracked hooves, which, as Qinnong Net mentioned earlier, is caused by too much fat in the pigs and excessive pressure on the hooves. Just pay more attention during feeding.
The Landrace pig breed is good in both yield and returns, but only by paying attention to all aspects of detail during breeding will there be higher returns. If you have any insights from your daily experience raising Landrace pigs, you are also welcome to share them with us.
