What Are the Prospects for Taihu Pig Farming? Profit and Market Analysis
The Taihu pig, just like its name suggests, is widely farmed in the Taihu Lake region. As people continue to crossbreed and upgrade its breeds, it is now one of the well-known meat pig breeds in the country. Today, Qinnong Web is here to analyze the farming prospects for Taihu pigs over the next few years.

1. Farming Advantages
From the perspective of the Taihu pig itself, it is one of the pig breeds with the highest litter sizes, with numbers reaching more than 15 piglets. Secondly, the Taihu pig's fattening results are very remarkable; under normal circumstances, it can grow to 300-400 jin in a little over half a year. Its lean meat content is also extremely rich, and its sales channels are very good. The reproductive performance of the Taihu pig gets better the further along it goes; generally, after the third litter it can reach more than 17 piglets per litter. Combined with its own superior resistance to germs and bacteria, it gets sick less often, and its medical costs are very low, making it one of the quality targets for everyone to farm.
2. Market Situation
The main production area of Taihu pigs is concentrated around Jiangsu. Because the local area has many cash crops, there is a considerable shortfall in the demand for Taihu pig production. Normal pork prices are around 20 yuan/jin, while Taihu pigs sell for as high as 30 yuan/jin, and even then there is a price but no market. Generally, pork prices tend toward stability, but the price of Taihu pigs as a whole shows an upward trend, with the selling price rising by about 5 yuan/jin over the past three years. Based on current market demand, it will tend toward a stable state over the next few years.
3. Economic Returns
At present, farming one Taihu piglet requires about 200 yuan/head, while purebred ones are between 250-300 yuan. If other costs are calculated based on 100 head, the site fee for one year is about 20,000 yuan; the feed cost, based on raising them to 300 jin, requires 1,000 yuan each, so 100 head requires 100,000 yuan; other expenses are about 20,000 yuan; labor costs for 2 people total 80,000 yuan/year, for a total of 280,000 yuan. On the income side, the ex-farm price is 15 yuan/jin. Total profit is 15*300*100=450,000 yuan, and net profit is 45-28=170,000 yuan.
Taihu pigs have good prospects in both market and profit terms. Judging from the current overall situation, there will be good returns in the next few years, after which the market will be saturated for a period and returns will begin to decline. So if you want to join in, do it early; the current farming prospects are still quite good.
