Analysis of the Causes of Piglet Diarrhea and Prevention and Treatment Methods
Piglet diarrhea is one of the things pig farmers worry about most, because newborn piglets are too fragile; once diarrhea appears, they die easily, and it often occurs in batches. There are generally 4 causes of diarrhea. Below, let's look at these 4 causes and some simple prevention and treatment methods together with Qinnongwang.

1. Improper management
First, improper feeding is also very likely to cause this problem. For example, if the sow's milk supply is insufficient in the early stage, and the food provided seriously fails to meet the piglets' nutritional needs, this situation will occur. Or if the food fed in the early stage contains too much water and the piglets' digestive capacity is insufficient, causing indigestion, diarrhea will also eventually form. Sometimes rapid temperature changes cause an imbalance in the piglets' body temperature and can also trigger it. Cases caused by this kind of situation have a relatively small impact and can be quickly adjusted back through human intervention; just adjust according to the disease situation.
2. Viral diarrhea
This type of diarrhea is mostly caused by infectious viruses. Viruses such as porcine epidemic diarrhea virus and transmissible gastroenteritis virus are among the most common pathogens. After it appears, the piglets are generally listless, the frequency of excretion rises rapidly, what they pass is all water, and in the end it can also cause dehydration in the piglets. In addition, this type of disease is highly contagious, so great attention must be paid to it.
Prevention and treatment methods: first isolate the affected piglets, then disinfect the pig pens where the disease has occurred. Lime water or povidone-iodine can be used for disinfection. Those in the same pen that have not become ill should be vaccinated, and trivalent vaccines such as the gastric-flow-rotavirus triple vaccine or similar emergency immunization can be injected, depending on the disease. For affected pigs, interferon can be used together with enrofloxacin, and those showing dehydration symptoms need oral rehydration to prevent casualties.
3. Bacterial dysentery diarrhea
Bacterial diarrhea is mostly caused by dysentery-type bacteria and mostly occurs in newborn piglets. The symptoms are relatively obvious: the excreted feces have a foul odor, and the feces contain bloody material; the color of the pig's rump and hind legs will change. The piglets look completely listless and do not actively eat. In severe cases, the tail area will slowly bleed, or they will die directly.
Prevention and treatment methods: control the temperature well and carry out hygiene and disinfection in the early stage, and it is best to inject certain vaccines in time. Clean up pig pen manure promptly to remove the source of infection. Isolate affected pigs first, then use injections and oral medicines together. Gentamicin is recommended for injection, and for oral use, lichunjing can be used.
The above are some common causes of piglet diarrhea and their prevention and treatment. There are also some other causes, such as parasites, but this type is very unlikely to occur under careful artificial prevention, so it will not be introduced in detail. The dosage of medicines must follow the dosage given by the doctor. After all, the dosage differs at different times and under different conditions, so do not follow the usage and dosage given by people who do not understand it.
