How to prune Chinese hibiscus? A detailed introduction to Chinese hibiscus pruning methods
The Chinese hibiscus is a relatively popular ornamental flower, also known as zhujin or China rose. Its flowers are large and brightly colored, and it is commonly known among the people as "dahonghua" (big red flower). The Chinese hibiscus has strong sprouting ability. During cultivation, in order to keep the tree shape beautiful and have a large number of flowers, we usually prune it. So how should we prune it? Below, the editor shares the pruning methods for Chinese hibiscus.

Pruning methods
1. Pruning of small seedlings: During cultivation, with just a little care, the Chinese hibiscus will grow quickly and vigorously, but the branches will grow in a messy way and the tree shape will not be attractive. Therefore, to ensure a beautiful tree shape, we pinch the tips when the seedling is about 15cm tall, keeping only 2-3 branches. After the new branches have grown for a period of time, we pinch the tips a second time. This can promote branching in the plant, and the number of flowers will also be greater afterward.
2. Pruning of large seedlings: After the Chinese hibiscus has grown, we need to shape it according to its growth state, pruning off thin and weak branches, diseased and pest-affected branches, and unreasonable branches. If the branches grow too densely, they also need to be pruned, as this can improve the plant's ventilation and light penetration. The best time for pruning is during the plant's dormant period.
3. Pruning of flowering branches and old plants: Flowering branches are pruned after the flowers fade, cutting off branches whose flowers have already withered. This can avoid the consumption of nutrients and provide sufficient nutrients for the next flowering. Old plants should be heavily pruned every one or two years, cutting back some old branches, which can promote the sprouting of new branches.
Pruning precautions
When pruning, we should decide whether to prune according to the plant's growth state. During pruning, be careful, mainly not to damage other branches, and do not prune excessively, as excessive pruning will affect the plant's flowering. Try to choose the plant's dormant period for pruning. After pruning, apply water and fertilizer in time, first to replenish what was consumed, and second to speed up its growth and promote branching.
