Jackie Chan Endorses Datong Daylilies, Helping a Specialty Agricultural Product Out of a Poverty-Stricken County
Nowadays celebrities rarely endorse agricultural products, but on the afternoon of the 7th, renowned film star and National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) member Jackie Chan called at the joint group meeting of the CPPCC culture and arts sector for more literary and art workers to help impoverished households shake off poverty, helping them sell lettuce and daylilies, so that these specialty agricultural products can step out of poverty-stricken counties.
According to a report by the People's Daily app, Jackie Chan, as the leader of the "Poverty Alleviation Battle—Starlight Action," reported on the progress made in 2018 at the meeting. He said that in June last year he went to Datong City, Shanxi Province, and holding daylilies, he said, "Datong daylilies are good, Datong daylilies are good, really delicious." He later learned that sales of specialty products from Datong's poverty-stricken counties, as well as tourist visitor numbers, had both risen substantially.
Jackie Chan said that as a filmmaker who had just begun poverty alleviation work, he still lacked experience and felt somewhat uneasy about whether he could do it well. But seeing the warm and sincere farmer friends, a strong thought came to his mind: as long as it is a good agricultural product and can help the farmer friends, he would endorse it.
Jackie Chan said that between September and December, the "Poverty Alleviation Battle—Starlight Action" organized a total of 29 film teams to go into poverty-stricken counties, with a total journey of more than 100,000 kilometers, traveling to scorching Chongqing, climbing the Daliang Mountains, helping villagers move house in Qinghai at minus 19 degrees Celsius, doing livestreams in the early morning, doing livestreams at sea, and doing livestreams in the rain.
Jackie Chan said that through public-interest endorsements, industrial assistance and other forms, film workers showcased local distinctive culture, distinctive tourism, folk customs, and agricultural and sideline products, going deep into life, taking root among the people, and carrying out targeted poverty alleviation. A variety of agricultural products became internet-famous and sold well. This left them, the film workers, greatly inspired and full of enthusiasm and confidence.
According to local media reports from last year, Jackie Chan's visits to various places drew huge crowds everywhere! Villagers in Shenxi Village, Hunyuan County, Datong City, said the village had never been so lively, and the whole village was incredibly excited! An elderly person at the scene said, "I never dared imagine that in this lifetime I could actually see Jackie Chan in person!" A local elderly person was reluctant to put on the new shoes given by Jackie Chan's team, and Jackie Chan promised on the spot, "Please wear them; if they wear out, I'll give you another pair!" This moved the elderly person to tears.
