How do you propagate a potted osmanthus tree? Please explain. For propagating potted osmanthus, the approach grafting method is mostly used, carried out during the dog days after summer. The rootstock is 2-3 year old Ligustrum quihoui (small-leaf privet), 0.8 cm in diameter. Choose a 2-year-old osmanthus similar in thickness to the rootstock as the scion, move the rootstock together with its pot next to the scion, cut away the bark at a nodeless spot to make a cut surface 3-5 cm long, then at the same height on the scion cut a surface the same size as that on the rootstock; the cuts must be smooth. Press the cambium layers of the two tightly together, bind and wrap them tightly with plastic strips (water must not get in), and 3 months after grafting it can be separated from the mother plant.
