Why does cherry tree bark split? Please explain
When cherry trees have sufficient fertilizer or water, there are cases of bark splitting due to overly rapid growth. In this regard, the nursery applied urea in spring, which may have had a relatively obvious promoting effect on plant growth, causing its xylem to grow faster while the outer phloem could not keep up, ultimately leading to bark splitting. However, generally speaking, such a phenomenon will not have much impact on cherry tree growth. Under normal fertilizer and water conditions, its callus tissue will form spontaneously within two to three years, restoring the bark to normal. The only issue is that the split bark affects the landscape effect.
However, one thing to note is that without the protection of the bark, the split areas are easily invaded by pests and diseases, requiring some protection for prevention. Using agents such as thiophanate-methyl and chlorothalonil, applied regularly at preventive doses, can achieve very good results. Without special requirements, there is no need for other physical protection.
