How to manage cherry blossoms in summer? Here is some guidance
In summer, cherry blossoms can be managed by referring to the following methods:
1. Mulching with straw to prevent drought: Summer temperatures are high and evaporation is fast, so the amount of watering is greater than in other seasons, but the principle of "do not water if not dry, and water thoroughly when watering" should still be adhered to. Cherry blossoms are shallow-rooted plants, and their growing roots are close to the soil surface and dry out easily. Straw can be used to cover the base of the tree, which not only retains moisture and resists drought, but also prevents the capillary roots of the cherry tree from being washed out and exposed, while greatly reducing soil moisture evaporation.
2. Wrapping the trunk to prevent drought: Within 2 to 3 years after planting, straw can be used to wrap the trunk to prevent it from drying out. Because cherry blossom bark is relatively thin, wrapping the bark can prevent drought and sunscald, and can also protect against cold in winter. After two or three years, when the sapling grows new roots and its resistance to the environment gradually increases, it is no longer necessary to wrap it with straw.
3. Watering: In the high-temperature season of midsummer, it is not advisable to water at noon; watering should be done in the morning and evening. After each watering, loosen the soil once the next day to help the roots breathe.
4. Pest control: During the high-temperature and drought period from June to August, cherry blossoms are prone to damage by red spider mites. Spraying 50% bromopropylate emulsifiable concentrate at 2500 times dilution, or omethoate, dicofol, and other pesticides can achieve relatively good results. Note that mites easily develop pesticide resistance, so acaricides should be used alternately.
