         Jasmine has a long flowering period, blooming continuously from early summer to late autumn. It is pure and elegant, with a rich fragrance, and is deeply loved by people. However, many people use very unreasonable pruning methods for jasmine, mainly in two ways:
        First, pruning too heavily, which causes delayed flowering and fewer flowers;
        Second, pruning too lightly or not pruning at all, which causes the canopy to become closed and shaded, resulting in small flowers, fewer flowers, and weakened plants. These two extremes cause delayed flower harvest, low yield, and poor economic returns in block plantings. The key points of reasonable pruning techniques are introduced as follows: jasmine bears cymose inflorescences at the tips of new branches, and each time a new branch is produced, it blooms once, so methods such as heading back and pinching should be used to encourage more buds and strong branches; jasmine likes light and heat, and with good ventilation and light penetration and high temperatures, it produces more flowers and larger flowers, so methods such as pruning dense branches, weak branches, and leggy branches should be used to improve the ventilation and light conditions inside the plant.
        First, pruning during the growing season, carried out from after spring budbreak to before overwintering, to encourage new branches to be uniform and thick. Blind branches (non-flowering branches), leggy branches, weak branches, and diseased and pest-infested branches should be removed as soon as they appear, so as to facilitate good ventilation and light penetration; after each flowering, promptly remove the flower stalks and overly dense branches to encourage axillary buds to sprout, achieving the goal of more lateral branches, more buds, and more flowers.
         Second, pruning during the dormant period, carried out before spring budbreak, to encourage the first-order branches to grow uniformly and thickly and to adjust the canopy. Remove diseased and pest-infested branches, dead branches, and thin weak branches; head back the tips of one-year-old branches, retaining the base and 10 cm-15 cm; remove all leaves from the plant.
