How to control termites in eucalyptus? Please give an introduction
The common pest of eucalyptus is the soil-dwelling termite, mainly Macrotermes barneyi, followed by Macrotermes annandalei. Although other termite species are found in the forest, they are not enough to cause damage.
1. Damage pattern. In young eucalyptus plantations, termites first damage the root collar, then gradually move from the soil layer to the soil surface and aboveground parts, and then strip and feed along a ring of the surface soil on the main root, lateral roots, and the bark at the base of the trunk, so that nutrients cannot be transported up and down and the young trees die. In severe cases, they build "mud sheeting" up and down the trunk, wrapping the trunk and branches entirely, so that each young tree looks as if it were "sculpted in mud." Inside the "mud sheeting," the termites strip and eat all the phloem of the eucalyptus, exposing the xylem, thereby causing the trees to die.
2. Control methods. Focus on prevention, using poisoned bait for trapping and killing.
(1) When planting, place 3-4 grams of carbofuran (Furadan) in the planting hole, mix it with the base fertilizer and soil to fill the hole, using 0.35 kg of pesticide per mu.
(2) After planting, apply 2 grams of carbofuran (Furadan) in a ring around the tree base at a horizontal distance of 5 from the stump, using 0.22 kg of pesticide per mu. Be careful not to let the powder contact the seedlings, so as to avoid phytotoxicity.
